Best soil mix for Passiflora

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Montery,
You might not have to cut your Ruby Glow back. It just depends on how much and how fast it grows. If you wind it around and around the bottom of the trellis a bunch of times, you can get a lot of vine around the trellis. I would never cut more than a third at a time.

You may want to try just leaving it outside. It may die back a little, but I think it will survive outside in your area and be tougher for it the following winter. Mine didn't even notice the 40-degree nights we had, and it even got down into the high 30's for a few hours. It should be hardy in your area, especially if you plant it in the ground.

They have P. Incense at Home Depot in five-galloon containers. It is a very good grower so, even if you find some in one-gallon-sized containers, they will grow fast. P. Incense also produces new vines from the root system. These are called "suckers" and can be pulled up to start new plants if you wish.

Hpluver, congratulations on your first purchase! You will be hooked now and will go back for more. Logee's, in my experience, is reliable, trustworthy, and ships healthy plants. Don't let the size of their plants concern you if they end up being small. They will grow fast! I have ordered from Logee's more than a dozen times and have been thrilled with their customer service and their products. I think your Passifloras will be very happy in your lovely well-lighted windows. They may even want to latch onto those other plants to help them climb.

Clare I was on the Phone all day no one has Incense right now it was 83f today. I am really getting bored with having to wait. My friend and training partner works at HD. So I should know if and when. I noticed that you are putting in a lot of shots. Thats great I love to see all your stuff. I can't believe that people don't subscribe to this wonderful website. When I was in Carmel last Monday I saw a neat Geranium. They are so bright they look like black-light poster flowers, just had to get some.

Monterey, thanks for the compliment:-) I like seeing your pictures too. We have so many of the same plants. I have a bright red geranium like that too and a double red hibiscus. That is a stunning color! Well, if you are really in a hurry, Logee's has P. Incense! They have P. Elizabeth too, which is supposed to be a nice one: http://www.logees.com/store/

Well I might just be having something new on the way. I asked a guy at the same nursery that I got the Ruby from if they had gotten in Incense. He said I don't know that one! I like it because it can come back the easiest, and it is purple. Can it grow in shade partial sun? I guess I like the bigger, older version because I love to see it produce fast. When I get better at growing things I will try cuttings etc.I wanted to get those seeds from the yellow slice Hibiscus that a guy wanted to trade. He never followed up, too bad. This is a picture from I think Kartuz. They have in their ad that Ruby goes to 25f I don't think so, I wish!

Monterey, I think Ruby starts to show some damage and branch dieback around the mid to low 30's. Temperatures dipped down into the high 30's here for a few nights this winter, but my Ruby is not showing any signs of cold damage. It probably just depends upon the plant size and how long it stays below 40. My vine may have acclimated some also because it was outside last winter too.

Yes, you can grow P. Incense in part shade. I think mine only gets a few hours of sun each morning, and it flowers just fine. I have not had any luck with cuttings so far.
