Nashua, NH(Zone 5b)

I'm going to try to grow some Double Angel's Trumpet (Datura metel.) I want to put them on a pot on my deck. I just saw some pots that are self watering...knowing from past experience that I do forget to water, I thought this may just works...How big of a pot is recomanded? I was looking at a 13 qts capacity.
And while I'm at it...any suggestions? This is my first time with this type of plants

well these plants do get big and produce tubers as they come back each year. i dont have mine in pots they are in the ground. if i had to put them in pots i would go with a five gallon or bigger for it to grow in.

maybe someone else will give you better advice on pot size.

Personally,I hate the self watering pots,I can not count the plants people have brought to me and wondered what was wrong,I removed it from the selfwatering pot,and it did fine, you may have better luck with them.
Dats will be ok on the dry side, and do not need a lot of fert, the pot size in my opinion,is better the better, that is just me.

i don't know but i have lots of different pot sizes with daturas and the 1 and 5 gallon seem to be the best. I let mine get for the most root boune and then replant. it seems the more root bound it is the sooner it will flower when transplanted. Everybody has a green finger in a different way. Experiment is the best advice i have to offer.

Hi Giorio,
A five-gallon pot per plant should be ample. You can put several plants in a five-gallon container if you wish. I find that my Datura Stramonium var. Tatula grows long and lanky unless I crowd it's roots, and then it grows more compact. The double/triple Datura Metel's are annuals and die completely, but Datura Wrightii and Datura Inoxia, both single white blooms, do come back from the tuberous root in the spring.

This picture sort of shows the container that I had one Datura in.

Edited to add: this five-gallon container holds two Datura Metel plants.
