I live in zone 5a by Chicago, we have an early spring. I bought a couple lilacs from Costco ($5.96/plant!)and the ground is thawed to two feet....should I be putting them in? Temps are in the 40-60 range days, 25-40 at night....(looks like the groundhog was wrong) They are budding already and are 2-3 foot plants.
when to plant lilac?
Lilac are very hardy plants....you should be just fine plopping them in their new home now.
Yeah!!! (doing the happy dance)
:-) Don't prune them till after bloom (assuming you get some bloom)....good sun and well draining soil, they'll settle in just fine.
