I have these two dogwoods that Janet sent me. I am leaving for awhile and need to know what to do with them! My neighbor across the street is going to adopt them for me, for awhile, and she is getting one of them.
Should we pot them? Go ahead and plant them? Soak them in water first? We are in zone 5b.
NEED HELP QUICK!
Karrie, I don't know about your growing zone, but the information I have from the LSU Ag Center said that the best time for planting dogwoods is in Late Fall/Early Winter (here), when the tree is still dormant.
Evidiently, dogwoods need shade to partial shade (especially here in Louisiana, where the summer sun is enough to burn your retinas out), and normal rainfall is enough for mulched trees. I'll look for more info.
What color do you have?
Jean
It's a White Flowering one, sent from Georgia (Janet).
I went ahead and potted mine, and suggested to my neighbor to do the same. I told her it would probably be good to leave it outdoors on mild days, but to bring it inside at night, then transplant it in April or so.
Have to Go! Will check this thread later!
