Yall I am just SO SO sorry!!!
OH OH OH Kell! WHAT!!
stangelbrand pics
Oh Oh OH Shelly, we are in deep doo!
OMG! I wonder if there will be an end to this, or if brugs will be just as much of a pain as daylilies with their rust.
Anyway, I had a Pink Favorite cutting that developed some weird looking stuff on the stem. This was before all the posts about SB started so I don't remember exactly what it looked like. I decided to get rid of it about a month ago, I put it out to freeze and then it went in a garbage bag. I'm glad I didn't wait.
Since I'm pretty sure that cutting shared the same water glass with some others I guess I'm going to have be very observant for a while.
It could be the case that a person got one SB cutting and then without knowing transferd it too all the other cuttings in that water. The other cuttings might have been perfectly healthy, and it might take a while before they show any symptoms.
Gee, that is true! Sharing water in a glass!
Well Pink Favorite is a known carrier so I would toss that one if I were you! I had 2 and out they went. One looked weird, failure to thrive. The other looked OK.
Its terrible isnt it???
I know there is no pic with my post, BUT, can SB get to citrus, corn, wheat, anything like that?
Is there a list of Known Carriers??
I only had that one cutting of PF so it kind of hurt my feelings to get rid of it, but it's long gone.
I just wish I knew what other cuttings where sharing the same water.
All my email from this long ago got wiped out, so I don't remember exactly which ones I should be worried about.
I guess the just picture thread can be the list of known carriers also. People are listing the name of the brugs by the picture. Maybe we should post the state also so we can see how far across the country it is spreading.
Good Idea! Start a thread with the plants everyone has pitched so far. This could be a good guide line for everyone to go by as far as plants to watch more closely or remove from their collections. Personally I think I will heed Monika's warnings about Suaveolons, get rid of those and any with heavy suaveolons influence.
My thoughts exactly Tracey.
Great ideas Tracey!!
I still don't know what we are looking for. I have a lot of cuttings and want to know exactly what to look for.
Honibee, if you look at the threads that have the pictures and look for the wounds or lesions on the pictures and study them, you will see what we are talking about. They may not look bad at first, but it gets worse as time goes on and it isn't safe to keep the plant, soil, or pot.
I encourage everyone who is reading the Stangelbrand threads to not only read the first post, but all of the posts in-between. There is a lot to be learned and these post will help us all.
It looks more like a scar but to be sure, you should check the sprouts once in a while.
Monika, how long would you think, if it were SB, would it show up on the sprouts? Just to give us an idea in general.
THANK YOU
I'm trying to absorb as much info as I can. All my cuttings looked perfectly fine, and they rooted easily. The lesions showed up on the new sprouts after about two months.
It may be a few weeks to several months!!! It depends on the type of hybrid.
I do understand, that all of you are concerned and alerted but PLEASE, there is no need for hystery. Please realize, that not every spot or scar must be SB.
Please help me over here http://davesgarden.com/t/420068/
Thanks,
Vi
GW, that is funny! but Root will have to do better than that little dark spot to beat me in the sprout crud contest!! the ick spots on mine are so blatantly obvious, no one could miss it!
