Since I can not find any signs of any plant having indentures with black on or around them,I will not destroy any plants but just to be safe I still will not share any cuttings this year.

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

David I admire you so much for posting this. I know it had to be a hard thing to do but even harder to think your whole collection might be gone. But some good has come from this, lots of good information is coming out and pictures so we all know what to be on the look out for. I have always heard about SB but never realized what it looked like etc until I have seen these pictures. Thank you for that. Monika as always thank you for your great knowledge.

Freedom, PA(Zone 6a)

David, that's what my pink favorite looks like, and my yellow gold has a patch on it also. I am so happy my brugs are ok. They are all doing great, going to move them to the greenhouse this weekend so they can grow faster.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I'm so glad you didn't find anything David. Hope your knees will survive. LOL!!

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

Can someone please help to try and identify what it is in the 2 pics that I posted. Pink floyd didn't show any signs of a raw bruised black area on its stem. Just the corky looking stuff.
Hopefully the plants that I sent out that are being questioned here are just suffering from cork and nothing else.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

It is cork David. You dont need to worry.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

TG David,
...............For the rest of us the fact remains that we must be ever vigilant and truthful about all diseases especially SB.

It would be a sad day indeed, without our beautiful brugs to share with our dear friends .

Once again, Thank You Monika, you are like our guardian angel =)

P.S. Beware of brug terrorists (un-named)

Temuco, Chile(Zone 9b)

Isn't wonderful !

Learning, learning, learning. Thank you catsmeow, Monika, kell and everybody.

Starting to cultivate Brugs when you're so far away from mainstream brug-addict would be very difficult.

If I did not have access to a forum like this one I would not be able to look after my new plants and get the opinion of growers with so much experience

Thanks so much
Cristina

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

My goodness David what a scare, I hope all goes well for you this year. If you do have any problems and need brugs replaced let me know. I have some you sent me back in the summer and they are doing wonderful. So far no problems with any of them and I think if there was a problem it would have shown up by now......
Keeping my fingers crossed for you....
Dee

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

Thank goodness it is not anything, but David you are the best! That took alot of character on your part, I would trade with you in a minute! Being honest will never ruin your reputation, being dishonest will in a heart beat. I knew there was something I liked about you from the get go!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Amen Tracey!! I really enjoy talking to David on the phone. As soon as I can give my plants the "all clear" he is welcome to any that I have.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Oh David, I just saw this. I am so glad everything turned out well for you--and very sorry that you had to worry so!

You are a true hero in my eyes, and I feel quite proud to know such a person as you. You showed great courage but I really hope that you know we'd love you anyways!

And what would we do without our Monica?

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

A happy ending. Made us all "sit up and take notice". We will be watching ours closer from now on. Thanks David.

david you are so wonderful!!! I'm so happy your plants are okay!
I'll start a new thread with pics so everyone can see some examples of what it looks like.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

David,I'm sending you a bill for the worn out jeans,I wore the knees out inspecting plant bottoms,LOL!

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Me too!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

It is amazing though how you can be with your plants so often and never notice such things! I have found all sorts of weird things on my bark when I really look!

Great news David!

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

David, you are a person that I admire because of your high integrity. I am glad that everything turned out ok for you. You have enlightened so many to the dangers of this dreadful fungus and that is easily transfered from one brug to another. You have brought attention to this and Monika has enlightened many who have responded to this thread. It is easy for most of us to be complacent, but you have made many aware that we cannot be that way. Something really good has come out of this thread even though it was kind of sad at first. Thank you for taking that step forward. I agree with Tracey, and also I wanted to say that nothing takes the place of honesty and courage. I am so proud of you!

I agree that we all need to be more cautious and mindful of our plants. I'm almost over that "I've got to have one of everything" mode, then another comes along that I MUST have. I have a pretty good collection going thanks to the many generous members and look forward to seeing them bloom this summer. I don't know if I'll ever become a hybridizer, but I do love to grow out seeds and would love to help the members here who generate more seeds than they can grow.

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Thankyou so much, David, Monika, Kell, Carena and all who wrote in this thread. It has been a great info thread. Donna

David, check your coral glow again. I just posted pictures of mine and I think it's Stengelbrand, there are black spots on 2 of these cuttings that I got from you. So sorry to have to tell you this, I had used seven dust last week because of aphids and this morning I started to wash them all off and that's when I saw the black spots. I think it might be the beginning stages, not sure. Maybe this is coming out in cuttings earlier than the mother plant.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

I can't seem to keep Coral Glow growing. Have gotten three from 3 different traders. Plants seemed to be healthy enough, just not a good grower.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Coral Glow is one of the cuttings I lost also.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Well, this is really weird, but I too lost a Coral Glow. Bought it last Winter. It started to root, and sent up a couple of leaves from the roots, and then just suddenly died. I lost an Insignis Gold (from the same person) the same way. I thought it was just me, but maybe that's what it was. I will never know at this point, but neither had any signs of stengalbrand -- they were just dryish looking sticks that never went anywhere.........

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Kaufmann, I'm pretty sure SB isn't what killed my cutting. Some just don't root as easily as others and sometimes we just overlook taking care of them properly with so many other things to get do. LOL

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

SB cannot be blamed for everything. But you should be aware of it and fight it right from the beginning.
You in the US at least know now, what to look for. I had to find out about it all by myself.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

We are learning from your experience. Should be easier for us?

More about Coral Glow. I still have one alive. Nothing sick looking aout any of the 3 plants, just can't seem to keep them growing. Evidently it needs something I'm not giving it.
