Is this a bud

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

After doing some research, I determined that the above is not a Dr. Seuss. Below is the foliage. Is this a Frosty?

Is the bud on this Variegata deformed, or do they always curl like this? Thank you!!!

I bought this one labeled Variegata White, but after looking at pictures of the variegated cultivars, I'm not sure that's what it is. Anyone?

I got my Suaveolens White Variegata from Logees. It has been gone for a couple of years, so I can't really tell without looking up a picture again to compare the leaves. I didn't notice the buds curling, but maybe it just got a bug bite or something that caused the curl. One of the experts could probably tell you why that happens. I haven't had a Frosty for a while. Hope you get a beauty out of it, whatever it is. You sure are growing some nice and healthy looking brugs Gretchen.

Even in this picture I just brought up, it is hard to get a good look at the leaves to make a comparrison.

Thank you for your help, Shirley! From the picture of yours, the growth pattern looks very similar to mine only yours is three times the size of mine, so maybe that's what it is after all. Yours in the picture is gorgeous! Sorry you lost it!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Gretchen, I didn't lose it, I gave it to Kyle. It wasn't my favorite and I needed to downsize a bit. It was also bad at attracting mites. Good luck with yours.

Oh, thanks! I have never had a problem with mites here. Its very humid and even though I have automatic soaker hoses in all my beds, I'm known for standing outside, hose in hand and top watering. With the exception of a few flowers, most of my plants do very well that way. I bought some of the Bayer Systemic that Kell has mentioned, and am going to dose them with that as soon as I plant them in the ground. Label has no indication for container plants, or I would've already done it.

PS: Thank you too for the comment about my plants...they evidently like their home. I just hope they do as well once moved outside permanently :)

Gretchen (or anyone)! I am trying to tell the difference between the Dr. Suess and Chas. Grimaldi. Should I look at the foliage or the flower? The flowers look very similar so if there are subtle differences, I'd appeciate some advice. I'm new to brugs--got these two last year and was not careful about labeling! Thanks!

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

The foliage on Dr.Suess is supposed to be more serrated than Charles. Charles does have some serration but not as much as the Dr.

Any guesses on how much longer before the brug (11:48 AM Post) with all the buds will bloom? I'm overcome with anticipation on this... Anyone? Thank you!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Several days yet Gretchen. First you will see the tendrils come out of the calyx and then it will be a few more days. If you can get the bud between you and bright light, you can see through the calyx and will see how far it has to go before popping through. I don't like to squeeze the buds for fear of messing up the bloom. Maybe it doesn't, but I just don't squeeze. LOL!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Brugie: Thank you so much! I won't even touch the bud, let alone squeeze it! I'm headed out there right now. Going to shine a flashlight behind it and see what I can see :) Tonight is my first night to leave the GH open. Our low is supposed to be 61. Yea! Wish I knew we weren't going to have any more cold, but last year we had three nights in early April that were in the 20's...

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Shoot, we don't even get that warm in the daytime on a sunny day.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

My only complaint is that it seems we go straight from Winter to Summer. I spent all day mowing and trimming today. I guess I'm back to my once a week mowing schedule...

I just checked -- its about half-way down, and you can see droplets of moisture inside it. Pretty neat looking. I am so excited! Thank you, as always, for your help :)

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

You're certainly welcome. Will be watching for pictures in a while.

gretchen the lows here have been in the 50's and i hav left my Gh open at night for three weeks every thing is doing great.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Hey Amanda! Good to see you!!! I'm having the same weather as you, or close to it. We've been really wet this Spring though. I've been leaving mine open too, and the plants that are still in it, are loving it.

Off subject:
The seeds did really well for the most part. On the unknown's, I got 100% germination. Any idea what any of them might be? Just curious.

You have a great evening!
Gretchen

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Congrats Gretchen. Dr. Suess has beautiful blooms. I don't have any varigated one anymore. Maya never came back from winter but didn't grow real well anyway, snowbank didn't even make it to winter and I got rid of the others. They were mite magnets

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Thanks Donna! I'm really looking forward to all of them, but I do also keep hearing that the variegated ones attract mites. I'm going to plant them as far away from the others as possible. I am very dissatisfied with my Snowbank. Its just not flourishing like all my other brugs.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

The only variegated one that the mites liked here was White Suaveolens Variegata. It was really a magnet, but the blooms are so cute, I think I will try it again. Maybe it was just a really bad year for mites when I had it. Actually, two years and two plants.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

I found mites today in my GH. I flushed all the leaves and stems on all sides of EVERY SINGLE BRUG with water, and I noticed that they were really only on a few plants -- all yellows -- surprising considering that they are all crammed in so tightly together. Will washing them off do the trick, or do I now need to use a miticide? I have some of this:

http://www.schultz.com/GardenSafe_%20R&F.htm

and I'm wondering if I should use it now? Any suggestions will be most welcome! Thank you!!!

Brundidge, AL(Zone 8b)

Gretchen, this is what was blooming at the time these seed pods formed the bees pollinated them, whiskers cross brug that is yellow, dr suess, candida double white janet reno tropical sunrise, jean pasko ,peaches and cream, a white unnamed seedling from last year, a yellow unnamed seedling from last year. and of course the moma deep pink unnamed sav brug , it would be cool if the p and c pollinated it and we got a deep pink varigated brug!! If you get one i want a cutting!! LOL, I truly wonder if this is a possibilty, i am not smart enough to figure out how to hybridize to get what i want~~ sigh~~

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Well, I can promise you that none of mine are variegated -- I would've been bouncing off the ceiling if that had happened! Believe it or not, out of all my babies, they are some of the biggest, healthiest ones I have. Growing like mad!

I'm planning on giving a few babies to some people, but I'm going to keep all the unknowns. I'll keep you updated on their progress!

Hugs,
Gretchen

PS: I don't know that I'd ever be smart enough to get what I wanted LOL!
