Just wanted to show some of the baby brugs coming up and are already potted up into 4 inch pots.. This is really scarey. I Don't know how you all do it to grow so many, I feel like 20 is alot. But, just got some different seeds from a DG member and will sow some more in a couple of days. This is just too addicting. They were transplanted yesterday. I hope they make it, they all looked good today and I have been misting them twice daily. I moved them to take the photo and put them back under the flourescent lights. They are one month old from the date I sowed them. Happy day here..

You are doing a great job Gourd!!
I love to see the excitement, and am glad to share in your excitement as well.
Having people around who appreciate brugs IS wonderful isnt it?? Makes ya not feel so silly when you get excited and want to share your new leaf, or an inch of growth.
Gotta love this place! Can you imagine when we will smell and see our 1st babies blooms, that WE actually grew?? I know I will be sharing pics for sure!
Keep up your great work gourd!
They look just great. You have the touch!
You are going to have a yardful of Brugs!
Did you get my Email back to you Gourd?I have a hard time with the dang MSN and don't trust it!
Root.
Hi Root, yes got your e-mail. Running the Anti Virus scan on my machine, and updating the Firewall/Norton.. I got two notifications from McAfee that there are two new viruses out there.. So I have tried not to e-mail anyone in the last few days.
Do you all think that these brug babies will bloom this year? I sure hope so. I have been struggling with aphids for about 2 months. Finally, I think I might have them somewhat under control at least. Thanks to some good people here at Dave's. I sure did not want them to get into the seedlings.
thank you all for your support ...
Looks like you have a great start on this season, with the proper care,I see no reason you won't have blooms!!!
We all have to do the battle of the bugs,it is a fact of life with Brugs!
Be sure not to overwater your babies, and don't let them dry till they die,LOL,confussed yet?in your zone,it won't be long till you have them in the ground.
From the looks of your collection, you will have years of great blooms.they are so addicting,we love to see all pics, babies, buds, bugs, blooms,if it is a Brug,we will look!!
LOL Root, that is true! I love to even look at sick brugs!
Looking good Antoinette. Bet you will have some great looking brugs this year. With your summer/fall being longer, you should have time for those babies to bloom.
They look wonderful -- thanks for sharing them with us :)
Gretchen
They are doing fine on their third day in the 4in pots, and looks like a couple got their 2nd set of leaves. I think this coming winter (2004) I will take some into the house to keep the blooms going. (are you all thinking about next winter too)
my goal is to have a couple of alley trees..... someday. I will try to keep them straight... (first I gotta keep them alive)..
Gretchen i saw some of yours, they look wonderful. And I love your greenhouse.
Root, I sprayed Raid, flushed them with water, used 50/50 alcohol/water, then flushed with water, then used 50/50 peroxide/water, then flushed again with water, then used insecticidal soap, flushed with water, then did the whole thing over again for a couple of days straight.. (i had already used the insecticidal soap quite a bit before that, but heard they get immuned to one thing, so I changed my tactics) My cuttings don't look too bad.. just the new growth looks tired.. I wonder why?... on top of all that, I found 2 aphids today.. man.. that means more spraying tomorrow. Gave them a break for today and myself one too..
Brugie, I didn't think anything was going to grow after seeing those embryos I got into...lol.. lost a few seeds but got almost all I planted to sprout. This is very good experience and a challenge for me, since I love to germinate seeds (any seeds).
Kell, alot of the advise I got is from you and everyone else here at Dave's and BGI on getting these seeds going. So when I have to build a green house, it will be all of you all's fault..lol..
You sound like a good germinator! LOL. I should send you some of mine that are being so bad!
Gee Gourd, be careful, you do not wet the soil too often. They rot easily, esp when a big pot for its root system. Did you spray all this on the leaves? I have never used alcohol so I do not know if that is too strong. Do you all flush the stuff off the leaves?
Is it real warm where you are? Here it is still pretty wet so I am still being careful to let my soil dry out before I wet it again.
I had some aphids also on my small cuttings. I just took them to the sink and turn them sideways under a warm spray and got them all off. I will repeat in 2 days. But I do not get the soil wet. If they still come back I will fill a hand pump sprayer with palmolive soap mixed with water, and spay that on the leaves. That always works for me!
Good luck!
kell, I am really surprised that I did not kill them all. Will take a couple of pictures tomorrow, most of the ones I did that too are already in gallon pots (cuttings from Oct/Nov/Dec). I did turn them on their sides and flushed that way, so that nothing went into the soil, but I still think that stressed them out..
I should bring them in one by one into the kitchen and do as you did in the sink.. Palmolive, is that the dish soap.. got some and will do that. I am also growing cup & saucer vine, mina lobata, purple hyacinth, love in a puff, rubber vine, cardinal climber, passion vine, and others that the aphids were spreading to. (told you I like seeds). Well, will do that tomorrow. Thanks for letting me know about the palmolive.
Morph, yours are doing great, good looking babies there. Sometimes the seeds, from reading the posts, could take months, so we are doing just grand. Mine in the rockwool have not come up yet (2 seedling up, sowed on 1/30) that is it in the rockwool as far as Brug seeds go, some coneflowers are up, daturas, and rubber vine up in the rockwool. I have to make sure they don't dry up, what an education we are getting.
It is warmer here and they get lots of natural light and at night I still leave the flourescent lights on too.. and they also got bottom heat on heat mats. Some did real well on the heat mats and in front of a sunny window, while others like the lights.. also been leaving the ceiling fan on and the room stays kind of cool at night.
I can't wait to see both your flowers from these crosses. I am thinking so pink! LOL
PB x EP by T.Mcleod
On....
2/09/04...sowed 15 on Rockwool w/Lights & bottom heat
2/15......First germination noticed
2/20......100% germination
Kell, does PB stand for Pepto Bismol ?? Ya think ? LOL
scooter, you are having great results with that rw.. mine is a little slow. We are growing some of the same crosses from T.Mcleod.. Also, you are growing Sanguina seeds, how are they coming along. I ordered some a couple of weeks ago and they are not here yet..
When do the Sanguina's "Y", or do they?
Nice seedlings. I just wish I lived in a better climate so I could grow a tree outside. :(
I'm so jealous! I'm still looking at plain old dirt! :)
gourd, I've grown 2 batches of Sangs, they germinate quickly and are very chubby strong seedlings.
...........Sangs are different in many aspects, some of my seedlings are 4" tall and are sending out multiple side branches as if they are a mini-tree.
Bad focus ,too much back light but it is the one in the square pot that has 4 side branches..lol

LOL Scoot! You are a hoot Scoot!
My sang babies are not doing that Scoot. Yours are so neat.
I had great results with RW that i had gotten first online. It had lots of space between the cubes onthe bottom of the sheets. Then I bought some from a local hydroponics store. These cubes were tight together top to bottom and the RW seems much denser. I have been having a much slower time of it!
I just bought some more of the first kind online and am dying to see if it will germinate the same seeds I am having trouble with, super fast.
Scooter, do you think they may be getting "Ys" at a very young age? Maybe they will bloom soon. That would be fantastic. Keep us posted. I would love to see more Sang plant photos.
Remember that you can watch for those sub equal leaves that are a clue to you that buds will be following soon. I can't speak for sangs though. Mine never bloomed and never had sub equal leaves.
It looks too nice and green to toss Scoot.
I'm with you Kell, let's boot scoot in the butt if she tosses it!!
Shirley , see that ring I spoke of earlier just below all the leaves and stems ? It seems to be getting more prevalent as if an invisible thread is tied around it. This sure is a little weird-o plant.
.........Where the conjoined stem does split I would call it a Y except for the goofy stem below. I know there is a name for this double-stuck-together-thingie (tech term )
I see the ring and I'm sure there is some tech talk that would cover it, but I'm not one to understand all that lingo. I wouldn't toss it. Might be interesting to see what happens with it as it gets older.
Scoot -- that's an interesting looking plant. When did you sow the seed?
Okay, since everyone is showing off their beautiful babies, I have to add mine to the pot.
Gourd -- I know what you mean about being overwhelmed. I sowed 118 brug seeds. I won't even mention the 100's of other plants seeds that are growing in my GH and house LOL... Anyway, I now have 54 babies that have at least their first true leaves. Many now have 3-5 leaves. Pretty exciting. Just hope I can keep them going! Here is a picture of some of them:
You all are way ahead of me.. just sowed about 60 more brug seeds today.. from Larry Smith, he sent me some neat seeds, Snowcone x, Nina Lane x, Tropical Sunset x and a few others.. he just really amazed me.. (THANK YOU LARRY if you see this).. only hoping there is enough time to get them going.. This is my first year with brug seeds and by the time I'm done, am hoping to have a nice garden..
Scooter, I'm with everybody else.. do not throw that one out.. it might just be a whole different variety and What if?
I love "The Great Bruggula".. I saw your motorcylce on an other post and showed it to DH, he has a fatboy and a 72 Harley w/chopper handle bars.. That is all I know about bikes.. thank god he knows which end of my plants go into the ground..lol. Edited to say: Scooter I am now using your sheet that you posted to keep track of my seeds, sowing, hybridizer, etc... Thanks..
Kaufmann, good going there.. they look great and healthy too.

There sure are a lot of bikers here... my husband traded his Dyna for a PURPLE Softail Deuce last Fall... Scoot -- he was real impressed with your V-Rod!
Hah!
.......Another one!...........
.............When I said I trashed all my Nov. sown seedlings, save the Sanguineas, due to extremly poor growth........I LIED! ........LOL
..............More like I forgot this little feller ;>)
...........There is a teeny-weenie Golfito x ? seedling that had taken months to germinate. After the struggle he is potted up and only 2 inches tall.................Showing signs of multi-branching like the Sangs.
.............I'll see just how good my macro works and try to get a pic later =)
I only have one Sang seed that germinated for me. I moved the other seeds into perlite and am hoping for at least one more to sprout. I had ordered these from eBay.
I am still sowing brug seeds, Gourd. I have no clue what I am going to do with them all. Bu tI sure am having fun!
I have a few sang seeds growing, they sure have pretty leaves!
Gretchen, your babies sure are pretty!
Hey, Kell, do you have any pictures of your sangs? I was really excited about these until only one sprouted. Maybe I'm not in a preferable zone for these? Time will tell I guess... Would love to see you sang seedlings if you've any pictures to share :)
I just took one for you! This is one I just moved up to a gallon pot. I love the leaves.
I just got some fancy sang pollen so will be using them soon on my Arborea.
Sadly no Morph. Your sang days are numbered I fear. CC grows a couple in NY but hers I believe are babied and do not put out many blooms. Here where they love the cooler weather they get huge and get lots of blooms. They hate your heat!
