A question about Paulownia Trees

I heard that these trees grow fast and are good for shade.
I receive a packet for rural addresses in the mail periodially and these were offered.
Are they worth growing or are they junk trees? I always see them advertised, but the ads seem too good to be true. They are supposed to grow super fast and supply shade in just a couple of years.
I also read that people used to steal these right out of people's yards and sell them for the wood. Any truth to this? I need to know so if I get one, I can put it in the backyard where it will be protected from thieves! LOL.
If these are worthwhile does anyone have seeds to trade for them? I will find something to offer for trade or else send postage. I have tried growing these before from seed, but nothing germinated.
