I won some Brug seeds on the Joke and Chat forum (remember the poor monkey, Christine). Diane (Honibee) sent me "Apple Blossom" seeds which are supposed to be a Pale Pink. :) She said to soak them for a couple days and then when planted to keep them moist and provide bottom heat. Could I use a heating Pad on Low for "bottom heat" do you think?
Brugmansia
Can I?
OK, I'll come in if no one else will. On low setting how long can you hold your hand on the pad? If it's just barely warm it would be fine. If your not sure, put a folded towel or something in between or just raise it off the pad a wee bit. Be patient, maybe someone who has tried a heating pad before will come along. I think I did the dats in a damp paper towel or water with peroxide.

Thanks Brenda. I'll try it.
Lee valley sells the bottom heat seedling mats at as good a price as any; also I ordersome bigger ones (2 flats and 4 flat size) from a company on the west coast and they have worked really real will look for the name on the weekend. Most of the seeds which reauire germination temperatures in excess of 70 degrees we provide bottom heat until seedlings have true leaves.
This person uses heating pads to start almost everything. this because I keep abode fairly cold due to inside plants that don't like too much winter heat. Also, can't stand hot rooms myself.
I have 3 pads, just the ordinary people ones you buy -multi use you know - I have a couple of folded towels, then thepad on low, then a garbage bag in case of wetness, andthen the seeds, with an elastic band holding the cling wrap tight. Amen. Take off the clingwrap as soon as you see germination. At the mo I only have pansies and iris on the pad.
Inanda
Ok, good tips, Inanda. Thanks :)
Pansies?
she's a very early starter
Pansies. Why not?? I'm only starting them 5 weeks early. thought I would try to get cuttings from them if I started them earlier.
