Another newbie question...

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Shirley, maybe you just hit the nail on the head. If I tell him how much money I'm saving by starting seeds and cuttings instead of buy new plants every year, maybe he'll change his mind.lol

I never thought of the top of refrigerator. Think I'll go start some right now.

Now you're talking Sylvia. Just do it!! He will probably be the first person to compliment them in your garden.

Thank goodness my DH is very supportive of my hobby. Loves the fact that it enhances the property... and, keeps me out of trouble *chuckle* Thank you all for your advice on this topic! I'm sure you all are going to get sick of me by the time I have them in the ground!

Sylvia: I just started some assorted seeds (not brugs, 'cause I don't have those yet) in cellulose sponges.

I put them in a ziplock container and set them atop my DSL router as it stays warm (hope I don't burn it up). If this works, that's how I'll start my brug seeds when I get them. I guess my point is that its a "clean" way to do it in the house :)

Gretchen, you picked some great crosses, and I expect there will be some wonderful pinks from PB x EP! Looking forward to seeing photos of your Brugmansia blooms.

Thanks John, I really am excited to get them, and since photography is one of my other "loves" I'll be sure to post pics of the progress!

Aghhhh! I can't stand not knowing all the acronyms. I'm learning, but slowly. What is the seed bank at BGI? How do I locate it?

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

tiG.........What??? You do not have a seedling house???

............What does he need the laundry room and window sills for anyway, I'm wondering? .....LOL

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

If he is like my DH, he cleans his guns and golfclubs in the laundry room. lol

scoot, I know, can you believe it?? he's just going to have to build me something else for next winter. and after this morning, there are quite a few more!! lol, he's going to be thrilled.

Thanks, John! I knew it was something important because I see it everywhere. I really appreciate the link, too.

Hummmm......I like the idea of sinking the pots in the ground. I am warmer here than Mini and Kaufmann so my brugs should do well in the winter. I was worring about keeping them watered in the summer since I won't be around much to tend them. So that would somewhat take care of that problem. Now do yall keep fertilizing them at the same rate or does that take care of itself.
I use composted manure and compost in my planting beds, would that be enough or do I just have to wait and see?
Gretchen I loved the Cowboy you sent me.......He's the man....

I fertilize them just like I do any other brug, every 2 or 3 days in the summer.

city?? lol sticks, AR(Zone 7a)

you know I was wondering, you know those tree fertilizer stake thingies? I wonder if you put some in the base of a brug if it would cut down on how often you had to fertilize? cheryl

Social Circle, GA(Zone 8a)

I don't know Cheryl, check the ratio and make sure it is comprable-maybe if they have sone for flowering shrubs like gardenias. I would think that Brugs would need less nitrogen for growth and more nitrogen and potassium for roots and flowering.......but I am no expert that's just an "in general" note.
