Crepe Myrtle

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

I rec'd crepe myrtle in the pod...how do you get the
seeds out without breaking them in half??? The pod has
cracked open on it's own but I can't seem to get them out
without damaging them. Thanks in advance for any tips!

I would let them sit in the sun for a few days, they should just fall out when you open the pod which has many sides.

Thanks weeds :)...I'm at work right now but am eager to
go home and start collecting the seeds!

Maybe someone else has experience with these, I have just played with a few....

When i collected seeds from crepe myrtle, the pods were slightly cracked open already, but not so much to already have released (obviously susanne haha). I just grabbed handfulls of the pods and ripped them off the branch ( was not careful with them by any means) and stuck them in a bowl. then i opened each one by hand- i really dont think you'll hurt the seeds if the pods are already slightly cracked and dry. the seeds have wings, which are delicate, but the seeds themselves are hard and pretty durable. Then I put some in a wet paper towel in a baggie and got germination within a week or so. i wouldn't be too careful with them ;) i have a bunch of these if anyone wants some. i think they're white and pink...mixed. sase or trade works. hope this helps.

Thank you art_n_garden...I was wondering about the wing part
...wasn't sure about the pieces I was breaking off it.
