I just had to tell somebody II

Santiago, Chile(Zone 9b)

Yesterday one of my two types of Dierama grown from seeds presented me with the first flowers: pretty, pretty as can be!!!!

The plant is in a pot and not taller than 1 1/2'. The flowerstem is a bit larger and the flowers ...... incredibly beautiful deep magenta bells. I wish I had a camera to show you.

This one took 3 years to flourish from seeds, as many other bulb/tuber/rhyzom plants.

The other plant I have (that has not flourished so far) is Dierama pulcherrima, but I do not have an ID for this one. Can anybody help?

Hello,Ursula.

Let me offer you my best congratulations on your success in getting Dierama finally to bloom!
Since I don't know D so well I can't make the Id, but the following site might be of some help:

Among the Tropaeolum seeds you sent me four T.tricolorum have germinated all right. Two types of schizanthus ,and quite a few Adenophora and Campanula as well are growing well. There'll be such a number of flowers marked gUrsula"
in my garden@next year I Thank you so much.

Thanks Shelly. I just love careing for seedlings and watch them grow. It is such great reward to see them finally flourishing! This is also a way to obtain plants (1) I could hardly afford otherwise, or (2) are not available here, such as Dieramas.

I'm so pleased that the seeds I sent you are doing well. It could hardly be otherwise in your expert hands! Interesting link - thanks.

Thank you, Weeds. Yes, I am very patient when it comes to seeds/plants. However, must confess it's not the same with other stuff (LOL).
