exciting job change for me

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

after 8 long years working for my brother - NEVER work for family - I decided I badly need a change in job. A few weeks ago there was a job advertised for a 'Plant Buyers Assistant' in a garden centre not too far away. I got my application form and sent it off. The next day I got a phone call asking me to come for an interview whenever I wanted!! So I went on the Friday when I working half day. The interview lasted an hour and a half but it flew in. The interviewer told me he told his secretary when he saw who was applying he told her to get me in quick before I went elsewhere. Before I left he asked me to return the following Friday to meet the buyer. On the Saturday there was a letter in the post offering me the job. mY pay is up by £5000/$7500 a year, I get 7 more days holiday bringing me up to 20 plus the usual Bank Holidays, Easter etc. I told him I have a 10 day break pid for in the Czech Republic, and 4 other weekends away which may go against me getting the job. He told me they dont consern him. Whatever I pay into a pension scheme he will match. He says I can start when I want up to the middle of February so I quit this job on Christams Eve and start on the first Monday after New Year.

What a Christmas present!!

It's very strange when people know who I am without me knowing them.

This evening I was at a talk on the N Ireland Open Garden Scheme. The theme was a year of gardens showing the highlights of the open gardens. Anyway, I over heard someone saying to another "That's Mark Smyth from the radio. The guy with the Snowdrops and Geraniums" another chirped in saying he's the same person who goes on TV talking about bats. I looked round giving a knowing smile and hadnt a clue who they were. It got conservation going and it ended up that lots of people knew of me.

Lupinelover I cant push my luck just yet.

Limerick, PA(Zone 6b)

Congratulations Mark! Now you'll need to start an international mail order department at that garden center!
