Sue, I have read it does not work and I used to laugh at my friend who loves it, but now I use it and I really am a believer! Perhaps the placebo effect? But it has really worked for me.
Roots' Dos' and Don'ts
Great thread, Rootdoctor!!! Thanks for sharing your advice!
I didn't know Kell was sick but catching up on my DG withdrawal, it seems she's on the mend already. Glad to hear that!
ROTFLOL about Dee's suggestion for producing a datura!!! Boy, if only it were that easy to convert!!!
Hey Root! Where did you get my pictures? hahaha I have been guilty of that too. I think your best bet on sending to Cali is to send in vermiculite, no soil. Cali has some really harsh restrictions, no soil is a biggy! Besides vermiculite "roots" better. Are you getting a bunch of snow? I think it is coming here from there! Yuck, I hate winter.
Great info. Root....
T,We finally got snow,roads are dry now,still cold here,Brrrrr!!!!!
Thanks So Much for this thread. Even thought I have grown and sold water plants for years, this year my sister, Carolyn talked me into trying perennials and of course, her favorite, Angel Trumpets.
We did get all of her cuttings into pots or laying down in trays..and they are doing great. In fact, she has an entire room full of them.
But...I am a bit lazy and was busy putting more photos and plant info up on our websites for sales in March/April 2004 and I just placed on my trumpets in our hoop house which is attached to my home...and the kitchen window that stays open all the time. One gold one finally bloomed two weeks ago and stayed open for 7 days..and same plant now has two blooms open. It is gold...we purchased some without names..so only know colors.
Another I brought in for my neighbor is a datura...double yellow and it has a beautiful bloom right now and 3 more almost ready.
I would love to know what is the lastest time we can take cuttings. It is December now and our weather is cool but we do keep the hoop house heated to between 45 to 50 but most days it gets very warm in there. We vent too when it gets too warm.
1. I have several other plants and I think they are ready to cut and start. Everything still looks green and healthy.
2. The Green Pods on the gold flowered plant are very dark green and full...at what time do these burst open...I would love to save the seed so hope to find out info on that.
3. Another question?? Do you take cuttings on the Datura?? or just grow from seed each year. My neighbors plant has several very large green seed pods.
we are Zone 8 and this has been an unusually cold 4 weeks..we normally don't have this cold weather until January. I just went out and purchase more grow lights to set up for these cutting I hope to start tomorrow...have not cut yet. Will wait on some of your comments. Will try to get a photo or two tomorrow...
Thanks So Much,
Stephanie
rootdoctor...I sent you a quick email but your earthlink.net mail told me I was spam???
That is alright, my vendio.com email also puts my emails that they know are not approved by me in a special folder. I hope earthlink at least lets you read my email.
I am going over to your davesgarden email and send you our quote for the 1000 seedling pots...just letting you know to watch for them.
Thanks, Stephanie
Root, any news on your Drac seeds/seedlings ? Lost mine to mold =(
Almost forgot ..I got some acanthus mollis seeds! =)
shirley
Steph, will go see what filters are on!
Scoot,I never found any seeds,:0(,I hope to divide the root this year,we'll see.
Bob, did you get my mail tonight?
Have not gone in there yet, been looking in the dang MSN for Steph,I don't like the new hotmail at all!
Hi rootdoctor...sorry to be so slow...
Chelsey (13 yr old grand girl we have had for about 11 years) and I both came down with the flu and are just now pulling out of it.
I still have not heard from you...but email sometime just gets mixed up.
Our offer was $35.00 for 1000 and shipping. I think your shipping would be about $15.00 with UPS.
That is a better deal than we have on eBay right now..since we are asking $6.95 for 75 + US Priority Mail fee....used and cleaned 2 1/2 inch pots...but people are buying. These were only slightly used.
Told my sister, next fall we will have everything in place to sell seed starting supplies and equipment at our website, eBay and with a special price for all our Dave's Garden friends.
We have the contacts but since I only deal in Cash Only for my Aquatic Farm and Perennials business....ordering in the that first $500.00 order from our distributor has not been
a priority for us.
There are times I long to reach for the ole credit card but I also long to have all my bills paid in the next 18 months...so trying to bit the bullet with this one.
We take PayPal online at scgram@vendio.com.
We also take personal checks...money orders, etc...
We only take credit cards through our PayPal site....we
were hacked into last year to the tune of $4500.00 but...
Thank Goodness, it was through PayPal...and we were reimbursed within 24 hours. About $300 was through our local bank that I have used for the past 25 years...now, they gave us a hard time. But...the good news is we received all the money back into our accounts except for $35.00. So..now we only use PayPal for credit card or check payment that you want to use online. We still take
real checks by snail mail...
I know I probably broke a rule by posting here...but thought you wondered what happened to me. I was under the covers watching old TV movies...Gunsmoke, etc...for about 10 days.
Stephanie
We had the flu here too. I had it for 2 weeks and it's still holding on at about 10%. My sister however, has had so much sickness with her chemo that she was readmitted into the hospital for i.v.s as she was completely dehydrated. They finally found something that stopped the nausea. She said that she never dreamed an all-liquid diet would taste so good, especially the Jell-O.
Hey, Rootdoctor
I have hotmail but I NEVER ever use it...it fills up too much. My email for my work (which means I check it) is
scgram@vendio.com
That is what I do our nursery and eBay plant selling, etc...
need to go back and read again, have been off line so long I feel lost!
Stephanie
woodspirit1, our Chelsey had Leuchemia, ALL, when she was 4 yrs old. She has been off chemo now for 4 years and doing fine. That was a 32 month treatment...I know when she was going through that...if she ever ran a fever or 101 we were inside that hospital and in isolation...no fun with a 4, 5, 6, and 7 yr old. We lived there for so much of that time.
Was tough....the experience certainly gave me a different approach to every day of my life. Chelsey also had Closed Brain Injury from before she came to live with us at the age of 3...so that girl has gone through some things. She is going to be 14 the 24th of this month. She is a bit like raising a big 5 yr old....so we have fun too.
I am sorry to hear about your sister....if they start getting hungry...that is Very Good News! We will keep her in our prayers.
Stephanie
She has recovered so much that she called me and said, "I am ready to PAR-TAY! She watched the Dallas Cowboy/Carolina Panther game (our family has ties to both) and talked on the phone while a crowd of us were at my son's house. They yelled at the phone and did that hoo hoo thing. Since she is in Dallas, she was rooting for them and they failed miserabley. So all she said was, "Bite me' I'm going to bed."
My crowd all laughed.
What is your ebay name Stephanie? The same as here?
Woodspirit, I have been thinking of your sis and am glad she is finally feeling better.
Hi...ebay name is scgram
which stands for South Carolina Grandma
we don't have a lot there now...since winter time..we have about 32 items on our eBay store:
http://www.stores.ebay.com/aquaticfarmandperennials
Our website is:
http://www.waterpondfarm.com ....and we are just putting up about 2000 more items. We always try to sell lower than other brick and mortor sites.....
Thanks for caring!
Stephanie and Carolyn
Wood,I hope your Sis gets feeling a lot better, tell her sorry about the game.
Steph,you have mail,I hope!LOL!
I got your link open, very nice!!
Stephanie and Carolyn, you should put Dave's Garden down as one of your links. I love the stuff I bought from your site.
Brugie...
Thanks for reminding me. I am allowed to put
some favorite links on my eBay "ME" page...but I also
need to put him on our regular sites.
Thanks for the compliment. We am always building. Just need to teach my sister about how Easy making webpages
and store is. :-)
My husband announced last night that he was off work today
(he is one of those Civil Service Workers with all those
vacation days)...I have yet to tell him I will be sitting
at this computer ALL day placing more products up. I am
way behind.
Now...I have to go over to the Brug Society and read
why I had forgotten about those packs of FREE seeds.
We joined a good while back...and I just forgot all
about it. And here Carolyn has been searching and
searching for more varieties so we can really have fun!
I think someone on the Brug forum just reminded me
of that prize.
That small $10.00 membership certain could pay for
itself quickly.
Anyone needing the link to the Brug Society:
Brugmansia Growers International
rootdoctor...
I still did not receive email. The email here at DG goes to my scgram@vendio.com which is my business mail...or anything important I really need to receive.
I also have scgram@waterpondfarm.com
I also have grannydirect@yahoo.com
and a lot more, but you don't want to know all of those.
Try sending through my page on DG...it usually works.
My thanks, Stephanie
rootdoctor,
Ok...I emptied my hotmail out..only had two messages and I do have msn messenger open most of time....but beware, I have cable internet and sometimes I get called outside by dogs, cats or grandkids and I forget to put that AWAY sign on my MSN Messenger. My user ID there is also scgram.
My hotmail email is: scgram@hotmail.com
I had to go look this up....but I have no mail in that box now if you want to contact me.
My sister and I can order garden pots....and send the lower price on to you all....I am hearing everyone wanting pots..as my sister and I always do too. We have contacts with lots of people and nurseries and recycle places and we still need more pots.
So...if anyone here....would like a pot Coop, please let me know.
I am going to send Dave an email to.
Stephanie
I'm all set on pots Steph.I may get water plants in spring.
no problem, rootdoctor...
We hope to do a waterplant coop too....talking with our supplier now...hoping to purchase his overstocks and share with DG members.
Stephanie
If any of you want to look at their line and mine....
http://www.marylandaquatic.com/retail/about_man.cfm
I'd certainly be interested in co-op for the larger sized pots if the prices are good.
MEE TOOO!
poppysue and scooterbug...you both live on the East Coast...so shipping with UPS should be lower. Please let me know what size, the numbers and kind of pots you would like and I will talk with my distributor this week to see how the prices are running right now. Carolyn and I are sitting down tomorrow a.m. to write up our order....but my
distributor was to have brought over my price list...and it has not gotten here yet.
Am not sure I can do a large coop on pots right now... since I know we are doing the one for Sunshine Farm with Barry...and also a Water Plant one...but I would be more than glad to sell to you at the lowest prices possible.
Will look forward to your post here or...just
send email to:
scgram@vendio.com
We will check all this out this week. Our order goes
in on Friday...and the delivery to our business will be the following Friday.
Stephanie and Carolyn
http://www.waterpondfarm.com
Stephanie, I'm interested in getting some 2-3 gallon size pots. Maybe 50-100.
