Hello everyone - I'm back!!!! Moved into our new house in the country and after some problems with the move I am glad to say that we and the cats made it fine.....:-). Can't believe I've only been off line for a few days and missed you all so very much and also missed the grand entrance from the 2000th new member!!!! Only went on line a few moments ago and found so many email good wishes from my friends at DG. Thank you all so much. Well can't stop here - up to my neck in boxes!!!! It's a gorgeous morning and I'm in 7th heaven :-)
Is it really 2 June?
Congrats Louisa on your new home. It sure is a part of paradise where you are located. Happy gardening memories :)

Congratulations on getting moved! It is so great that you will finally be able to settle into your home and start the fun part of making it into your own with all those projects you have had to put off for so long! I look forward to hearing about it more when you get past the boxes and are able to spend more time with us. Welcome back!
Finally!! So glad to hear your in your new home at last. After all the boxes are done, we need some pictures too.
I wish you lots of happiness in your new home.
Donna
You are the best!!!! Thanks so much for your kind greetings! Will post some photos soon as I can.
Welcome back, Louisa! Your gentle spirit was missed, and we're glad to hear you and the cats made the move okay!
Lucky you Louisa! Congratulations! How long until you start putting the gardens in?
Hi Terri and Poppysue. Again many thanks for your kind words. The red clay soil will need lots of amendment before I can plant so will be tackling the front of the house first which means removing at least 2 feet of clay and putting in top soil and humous. I was rather surprised to find so much quartz here - surely this will aerate the soil somewhat? I will have to check with the local extension office to learn more about this. I wonder if any other members have this on their land!
Louisa,
I've been thinking of you, moving is such a stressful, happy, frustrating thing! How exciting to be in now and making it your own.
We have the clay, grey-brown heavy stuff with lots of shale and sea fossils in the creek beds. Not so much quartz, but some here and there. I use a LOT of sand and barnyard soil in my gardens, and we have raised those that I put my treasures in.
I will be looking for your photos,
kathleen
Louisa~ The quartz you mentioned- is it the rounded beach pebble type or the white angular kind? We have both here in mid TN. Either one looks good polished.
Hello Ivey, its very rugged but quite beautiful. Do you polish it yourself. If so, how do you do it? Thanks!
