I got these cuttings on 10/29/03 and they have really nice roots already. These are my first brug and I was wondering if they are ready to plant yet? And, can I just use Miracle Gro potting mix? Thanks for any feedback.
-groovy
Are these ready to plant?
They look great. Yes, I'd pot them up. Keep them out of the sun until they are established in the pots. Let them get root bound before you pot them into a bigger pot. I would start out with a 4 inch pot and move them up as needed. You will have some great looking brugs next summer. Way to go!!
ditto!
They look great groovy!! How exciting!
It looks a bit cool in your neck of the woods!!! :o)
Thanks you guys! I'm very excited about them too. I'm going to keep them in a pot so I can bring them in for the winter. Yeah, it is a bit cool here. It actually started snowing today!
Oh No...you can't use bad words like that one on Daves.....LOL!! Snow.......I don't want to even think of it coming. I know it will and we have been so lucky the last couple of years and not had a lot. I know that one day things have to even out and we will get tons of it.
Very healthy looking cuttings, should do well for you. Be sure potting mix is loose and drains well. Good luck, hope you see some blooms next year, or before, if they are inside.
LOL, four letter word! I live in New England the last three years and I saw enough snow to last me a lifetime! I'm glad to be back home in PA.
Ok, so I can grow these inside? How big do they get? BTW, this one is called 'Frosty pink'.
The only ones around here that get that big is ones planted in the ground in summer. They will not get too big in pots, which I keep most of mine in.
Some of mine got to 6 or 7 ft. in pots during the summer, but only about 3 ft. from cuttings while in the house. Once outside, they went crazy. By the time my cuttings are ready to go outside, they have graduated to gallon or bigger pots and need to be watered every day. Kell, that is a great Frosty picture.
Thanks Brugie!
How do they get enough light inside Brugie to grow so big indoors? My DH covered the skylights in the dining room until we get our new ones installed in Decener. It is so dark in there, I am getting worried about all my cuttings.
I love black or black and white cats. They looks so clean and always have a nice shine to them. Those are some beautiful eyes!! Thanks for post his/her picture!! As soon as possible, ours will be an it. Looks to be female at this point and I don't want to go through the bad times with her if I don't have to. If you know what I mean!! LOL!
That is a real sweet kitty, Shirl. I just fed mine prime rib/milk. He is grey/white striped/ four white mitten paws. A stray, sits on the picnic table outside, until I feed him.
Groovy, yours is a very nice one also.
Oh I hear you, mine is a he but he is now an it, LOL. I wouldn't want to deal with spraying, it can get pretty nasty even if they only do it once. Oh yeah, and he is really soft, like cotton. Is it because he's black or is it in his genes?
Groovytee, your cat is a beauty!
Shirley, I must have missed the story behind that beautiful kitten. Tell it again! PLEASE!
Shirley,if that cat was up in Mi.,I'd have to say it has Bobcat in it,look at those ears and short tail.My friend FlyRodBob had a cross,it could jump flat off the ground to the garage roof.Kept the bunnies down.
Thanks kell!
Yes, Shirley, your kitty has a unque look. He almost looks like he's up to something at his young age! Beware, LOL!
Believe me....this cat must be unusual. It is into everything. Jumps up on the bed and off. Over to the keyboard, up on my shoulder and all the time it is batting at something. Boy, it has some serious claws too.
Kell, an old yellow mother cat brought three kittens and parked them on Wanda's porch. My MIL. They hung around for about a week and then the mother cat disappeared. Wanda had a rug out for the kittens, but said she wouldn't feed them because she hates cats and dogs. So, one day Jim went in and one of the kittens was almost dead and a few minutes later it was. The next day I guess was the day that the mother disappeared and he said that another of the kittens looked like it was going to die. I don't know if it died out in the open or went someplace and then there was one. He brought it home and put it in his shop about three days ago. It would have frozen by itself as it got down to about 14 last night and with no meat on it and no other cat to sleep with on the north side of a house, it couldn't have made it. So, it now has a new home and will have to make its first trip to the vet very soon. Just guessing, I would say that it isn't much over six weeks old. Eight at the most, but probably not. That is about all there was to it, but I was upset a week or so ago when he wouldn't let me get one of the Shelter kittens or the one from my cleaning lady that was a Calico. Now we have a barn cat or something, LOL, but she will fit right in here. Nothing fancy and no problem unless she starts digging in the brug pots and then there will be trouble.
Kell, what a beautiful pink brug tree. I hope some day I will have something like that.
Brugie and groovytee, what nice looking cat and the darling kitten. I don't have any cats, have lots of birds. But now there are a couple of strays around and i am afraid they will kill lots of the birds. Donna
Groovy... what a beautiful cat!!
And Brugie!!!!! What a little cutie! Congratulations!! LOL I can just see the little peanut jumping all over you and the house! :o) Does she have a name? Im excited for you! And what a great story. Love it!
Awww...Shirley, I'm so glad you guys saved that kitty! Poor thing... What a story! Sounds like you got a wild one.
Hmmm.....I wonder how I can get a new kitty? "DH, he followed me home and its freeeeeezing out there, we can't just leave him. Can we keep him, pleeeeeze?" How does that sound?
LOL... sounds good to me groovy!
Shirley, Jim did a very kind thing and he knew you wanted a pet. I'll bet it will be a great kitty once she settles down. She's a lucky cat.
Shirley, I am so glad, that Jim saved the kitten. Give him a big hug from me and tell him why!!!
It is a very cute kitten. Once it has inspected the house, it should settle down. Cats are very nosy!
groovytee, I believe when I asked about fertilizers, that more folks preferred Peter's to Miracle Grow because of the trace elements. In the spring, I pile some Black Kow and bone mean on mine but continue with other fertilizer throughout the rest of the growing season. I found some Black Hen once or twice, which is a good fertilizer if you don't over-do it and burn your plants, but it is hard to find.
Brugie: She is a cutie. Looks full of mischief in the pic. So glad for you that Jim took pity on the poor thing. We all know that she will have an excellent home with you.
Morph, what a great looking kitten. Ours is finally tired and taking a short nap. Gives me a chance to use the computer without a cat walking all over the keyboard. She wanted to play at 4 AM, so I lost some sleep last night. Think I'm about ready to go catch up some. Thanks everyone..she will become an important part of the family in no time at all, I'm sure. Still no name. The way she has been acting, I'm about to call her Skitzo. LOL!
Morph what a pretty cat and I love her name! Blizzard! I would love a kitten again by then I would have to find a new DH and that would be tough!
You should see how I type at the computer Brugie. Gabby sits on the back of my chair and she pats my shoulder every now and then. She is the smartest cat I have ever had! She found me when she was about 3 years old. This is her a minute ago!
Oh gosh! These are just beautiful! I am allergic to cats, but had one while I was growing up, and she did what she wanted WHEN she wanted. I recently found a kitten on the side of the road, and had her for 3 days praying maybe I wasnt allergic to her (I was) BUT... while she was here.. bless her little heart, she ruled the roost. It was the funniest thing, this tiny kitten would sit with me, and my 2 dogs 65 lbs and 25 lbs would come and bombard her, and she would whomp them! I just couldnt believe it. She wasnt scared one bit!
Could it be as time goes on, cats are showing how truely smart and out-going they are? Or have they always been, and I just always knew the "typical" cats? :o)
Thanks for showing all the great pics!
Morph, just curious since I had 2 white cats, can Blizzard hear?
§
OMG, I love them all! Morph and kell, you're kitties are sweet! My Lewie has always been quiet, he's 2 1/2. Recently, since we moved into this house, he has taken up 'talking'. Don't know why but I like it...
Shelly, love your story about your kitty, they're fearless!!!!
groovytee: See if you can find a wirehair kitty. They are supposed to be good for people with allergies. Their hair is soft but kind of curly.
I don't know how expensive they are. But you could always keep an eye out at the local shelters for a wirehair.

Great to read about all you cat lovers. I have 3 of my own and they are outside, inside cats and like my kids....have me wrapped around their paws, as well as my husband. They are really good to keep the snakes out of the garden....one killed a snake last summer before I could even get to it with the hoe myself, so they are good to keep in your gardens. Of course, whereever you are in the garden they have to be right there to see whats going on.
Thanks Mobi, I'll look into it. My husband loves cats so if we got one he wasn't allergic to, well, then we could get two or three or....
First, I'm sorry for contributing the hi-jacking of this thread :( Didn't mean to do it, but there's just something about pets that grabs your heart!
Brugie, that would be too funny if you called her Skitzo ~ that's how they are when they are so young :) I am just so excited for you and she is so cute with those eyes!
Kell, rotflol! I was almost looking for a new DH after I asked him about bringing Blizzard home ~ bless his heart he is so patient with my love for animals. Not sure he's so excited about my Alpaca dreams, though. Think you're right ~ looking for a new DH would be much tougher.
Scooterbug, yep, he can hear. That was one of our first learnings and then worries. Sometimes I'm not certain he sees things with clarity, but the vet had us do some basic checks on the hearing and thank goodness he was okay! Were your white kitties deaf?
Groovytree, I used to work at Iams and when my brother was looking for a cat (he's allergic), these were the three varieties recommended to me by a friend there.
"Devon Rex - has very short hair. Like smooth suede, according to the cat book.
Cornish Rex - also has very short hair, but it's wavy like a freshly brushed cow
Sphynx - This one looks and feels hairless, but really has very short down. These cats look ugly in pictures, but are as cute as any in person. I guess they just don't photograph well. The book says they sweat, so they need to be sponged daily. Theresa has an allergic friend with three of these."
