I went out to the hoophouse to visit my huge, green, beautiful RK pod and found it had rotted at the peduncle from some sort of mold. The same mold was on some Creamsickle old blooms. White and fluffy mold. I am so sad. It was packed with so many seeds.
Woeeeeeeeeeeeee is me!!
Yes, plant them quick. Hope some of them will grow for you. I had some much less mature than yours and had a couple of them that came up. You might get lucky.
Kell plant them!
I have to agree, Kell. Plant them! Give em a 10% bleach soak first to kill any fungus and then plant. I have several crosses germinating from immature seeds.

Hurry ! Hurry ! Hurry !
§
So sorry. Why is it always the best ones that something happens to? Hope you can save some.
Kell, I know you must be so disappointed after waiting on this one to mature. Are there any other pods on this particular plant? I hope some of the immature seeds grow for you.
lol I hope you are busy planting them Kell! I wish you luck, in getting some from this pod. :o)
Plant them quick, thats my advice also. There may be viable seeds in the pod.
Kell, plant those seeds! Then go out into the hoop house and spray a fungicide to stop the botrytis that is causing the problem. Daconil is a good fungicide(or something with chlorothalonil in it). If you can't buy that in CA, go to Lowes and get Green Light multi purpose fungicide. If you can't find that, mix 2 TBSP baking soda in a gallon of water and spray. Safer's makes one that has sulphur as a base, it will also work.
Botrytis likes humidity and cool temps, so that is why it's started in the gh. Spores are wind blown or carried by splashing water.
Susie, what does the baking soda do or how does it work? I'd never heard of using it before, but if it will work in a pinch, I'll file that one in the back on my mind for future use.
Poor Kell hope some of the seeds are good.
Oh Kell, where are you. Are you planting each individual seed in it's own pot? Maybe that is why you aren't here. I just tossed all of mine in one pot, but there weren't as many as you have there. Hope you get back here and tell us your story.
I took all you advice and planted half and put half in wet paper towels to see if they would germinate. However I had soaked them in that Physan 20 before I even posted this thread yesterday and it turned the seeds brownish. So I hope I didn't kill them.
I also sprayed the hoophouse before I came in yesterday with that Immunox that is a systemic fungicide. It has myclobutanil (sounds close to Susie's) in it. Do you remember 2002 summer it cost $9.99 for the 32 oz bottle that you hook onto your hose and this last summer they upped it to $15.99. Quite the markup! I am still mad over it!
I also cut off all the Creamsickle blooms that were old and full of it. I had to leave the stigma though for they should be forming pods. I hope!! The little pods on RK all looked OK. I took off the calyx on each of them.
Brugie, the first time I saw the Baking Soda recommended was in one of our trade magazines. I also forgot to add, you need to mix in some horticultural oil to make it work right. The article I read was from Cornell Univ.
Kell, was the Immunox listed as effective against botrytis? If it was, it should work.

:) no words needed
LOL Cala. It just registered!! You are back! LOL
And of course it does not say on the long list of fungus diseases that it kills botrytis. Does it have a common name?
Welcome back Susie .... you have been missed!
Great! One of the few threads I click on! And here's Cala! Glad to see you back!
Kell, beautiful pic! I'd like to follow this from day one!...from pic, to seed, to germ, to plant, to flower. This looks like something great in the making!
Thanks Susie and MVR.
Hi Susie, nice to see you again.
Well shucks....the first time Susie posted, I didn't want to say anything in case I would jinx something...but I'm sure glad you are back and hope to see you here a lot.
Amen, we NEED you, Ms Susie!
u're welcome Shirley :).
Please don't stay away, Susie. Everyone loves you here.
Wonderful and useful information as usual. Thanks Ladies.
Thanks Ma Vie! I may try that also..looks so easy.
So Susie come back out and play with us!!
u're very welcome Kell :).
Hallo Susie, a nice welcome frome me also!
We have missed you Susie and the sharing of your knowledge with us. I see that there are many that feel the way I do.
Thanks MaVie for the links . . you are always so helpful in finding info on the web for us.
I think MaVie should give some lessons on doing searches. I've never known anyone who could come up with just the right thing so quickly.
Frannie, I'm so glad you are back now too. Hope you are feeling like getting up and about. I've missed YOU too.
u're welcome Frannie. i hope u are fully recovered now.
Shirley... it is easy to do search. the key is make ur search simple. in this case, i highlight what Susie suggested. then paste it on google.
doing search, the words of my computer professor stick in my head "Keep it simple stupid!' plugging in simple word/s sure make it easy to do google search.
give it a try, go to google site, type in 'baking soda as fungicide'. u should get the same result that i had. there will be lots of options to choose. i pick the sites that i feel is closely related to the search i do. good luck. lmk how ur search result is/was.
I'm learning, but some days, I'm a slow learner. Thanks MVR for your help. You really are a peach when it comes to this kind of work!!
u're very welcome Shirley :). the most important thing is... use the simpliest key word on doing a search job.
often times, humans do complicate matters instead of making them simple.
i, too am a very slow in learning, but once i get the hang of it, it sticks LOL!
Thanks MaVie for the lesson on doing searches. I would have never thought about typing a phrase such as "baking soda for fungicide" and doing a search. I learned something new today and I will apply what you said.
Brugie, I am feeling much better and I will get stronger as each day goes by. I tire easily but that is understandable and sometimes I go to the different forums and just read because I don't have the energy to even think and respond. I know it probably sounds unreal, but it is the way that I feel at times. I am glad to be back.
u're very welcome Frannie :). it is always a pleasure to give a helping hand. ask away, i am always here. i may not be posting a lot, mostly lurking... perhaps nothing much to say, as everyone's post i read express what i wanted to say. but always on the look out to give a helping hand in my own little way :).
u can always plug in anything u wish in doing search, keep in mind to keep it simple.
it is understandable how u feel, when my BP soars, it is hard to think and put across what one wants to plug in.
having an operation, the body is still recuperating from changes it went through. cheer up in will get to normal one day soon. REST!!!
