tomatoe seeds

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8a)

My DMIL is wanting to save some of her seeds from her bounty of great tomatoes. I'm not familiar with saving tomatoe seeds and told her I would ask my dear friends at DG and see what yall have to day about this. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Here's a link that gives a good overview. I'm sure there are some folks out there with some helpful hints to add to it. http://www.victoryseeds.com/information/seedsave_tomato.html

We've covered this several times here, and Carolyn has graciously posted (more than once) a complete guide to saving tomato seeds.

If you do a search you should find those threads real quick.

I'm not trying to be being curt. Both Carolyn's instructions, and the resulting discussions, are rather long, and it's easier to search for them than have somebody retype the whole thing.

Jan,all of the instructions are great, but if your friend grew hybrid tomatoes there's no use in saving the seeds. They will not grow true.Only Open Pollinated seeds will produce offspring exactly like themselves.

If you are not sure about what she has, post the names here and we can help you.
