Found it at HD yesterday for $19. It is digital. It displays the temp inside and outside where ever you have put the outdoor sensor. Has the time also. It tells you if the temps are going up or if they are on the decline. It has an alarm to warn you if the temp is getting too low or too high. A great stocking stuffer! Takes 4 AA batteries that last 6 months.
This is too cool!!!
That is cool, what name is it under?
Thanks for the answer kell, my friend's getting her 1st greenhouse.
You and I are the only ones who are impressed Vi! LOL
It has gone to 36 degrees so I just went back out with my DH and we have now used every towel and every sheet I own!!! He figured out a neat trick! He takes a long stake and with it he can move the sheet up high over a tall brug and drag it over a few tall ones to cover. It works great.
Ha! for $19? All those fancy sites show them at $50-$200!
Beside's my eyesight's so bad, I'd need an alarm, I can't read my outside
thermometer very well at all!
You're blessed with your Tom, how many other men run around
with sheets at night?
You are right, I guess I will keep him!!!
So they really were that much? What a deal. I think I will buy 2 more for my husband's Christmas stocking! LOL
Kell, i had my atomic clock for 3 yrs. now, but no reading on outside temperature. temperature reading on this atomic clock is only inside. i paid the same amount u did @ Costco, a few years back. last year, Costco had a newer model that would read outside temperature, but cost $26.00 plus tax. i gave my son one last year the newer version. the brand on both is SkyScan.
i love the digital atomic clock. u do not have to change time each time of the year time changes. in all these time, i still have not change the batteries on mine. neat features, i'd say!
Hmmm wonder if Lowes has them. need one for new GH. Gonna get to 35 monday night. I'm not ready either. I guees it's gonna be a long hard day today and Monday to get it all done.
it was 36ºF at 6 p.m. early this evening. it is now 30ºF outside as we speak in the high desert of So. Calif. it would seem the temperature here will go below freezing tonite as predicted. where i live is in a microclimate area between Apple Valley, Hesperia and Phelan, Ca.
I have never heard of an atomic clock Ma Vie. Sounds like a great deal.
Donna, I wouldn't be surprised if Lowes had it. HD often has what Lowes has.
It hit 33 and I went thru the dirty wash and pulled out all the big towels and went out again to cover more that I was going too let survive on their own.....or not! I still have a Rosamond that stands at least 15 ft if not more. No way to cover it. I should have cut it way down and then covered it. Oh well.........
that is the same thing that u got Kell. am surprise u never seen them before. i 1st saw them in stores 5 yrs. ago, but way too expensive way back then.

Kell, remember Cala used to talk about Remay? Remay, accdg to her, it is use to cover plant to prevent frost damage. i've seen Remay being used in the garden network on tv. it is made of very light material. u do not need to take it off in the daytime, cuz light goes through it. it is made of polyester material. i wonder if HD or Lowe's carry them? i searched locally here, could not find any. maybe u will be luckier than i am.
I found some material at a hardware store. It was expensive though. I covered 2 small brugs and it took 2 rolls at $9 each. I also had a huge peice of row cover from Charley's somehing or other last year. Tom covered my brugling garden with it. well half if it! Tahat wass not expenive as I recall. I need to order more!
this url is the only one i could find to cover the subject of frost protection http://www.rodsgarden.50megs.com/winterprotect.htm
That's what I need! I'm glad you posted that before I had to break down and buy a $199 one.
I hope all your brugs make it through the night! They are so beautiful, it would even break my heart if they frosted.
Kris
Eckerds has a really really good one for $20.
Tig,the one at ekerds, does it have the remote and alarm for the temperature?
I need one bad, never did get one last year.....
This is great. I may have to see if my HD has one. Thank you so much for sharng.
My son gave me a "SkyScan" thermometer last Christmas.
This morning at 6 AM it was 27 F., coldest so far this year here.B-r-r-r-r-.The outdoor component is about 8 feet above ground level so the temp for plants is maybe a little lower. (:>(
It is convenient to check the outdoor temp from inside.
Haven't had to change batteries yet.
I got one at Lowes last week. Think it was about $22. Looks much like Kell's, but numbers are not as large and there is not a clock included. I like it anyway.
Sorry to change the subject but Kell, I need an address for you if you still want the double fringed morning glories.
I am going to look for the one with the outside sensor at the Lowes here. Sure hope they have them, It will reach to my hothouse.
CC, has remote sensor with 100ft range, alarm (2 settings I set high and low) indoor temp and humidity, clock, it's really good. called weather station, it's with the clocks I think, but was up really high, we didn't see it at first.
Kell,
Just got my Pinetree Garden Seeds catalog. They sell reemay by the foot.
But I would spend the couple bucks more to have it on a neatly wound roll.

Made by GE, digital wireless thermometer at Home Depot. Got mine yesterday and so far so good.
the clock, date and temps inside gh and in the house make this a great gift. $19.99
I did get frost damage out there, though it looks like only on my huge brugs I could not cover. I have not been out yet. I am just looking out the window. Oddly my huge bouganvillea looks great, all in bloom and my Tibouchina urvilleanas which are incredibly tall are not touched and the delicate blooms are undamaged! So the brugs are much more sensitive.
Also this gadget will tell you the coldest it got during the night with a press of the button. It went down to 29 degrees.
Now it is great out there!
Kell, thanks so much for posting about this. I had never heard of it before, and it will be just the thing for watching the temperature on my covered patio where all my brugs, etc. are now. That way I will know exactly when I need to do more to protect them.
Once again Kell...thanks for posting this. Now I won't worry about the temp in the basement. (Or have to run up & down, lazy ya know) Such a great little gadget!
Brinda :)
I'm ordering one of these just to have for indoor/outdoor temps so I don't have to run a wire through a window. Cool gadgets. I know they have different ones and for our zone I have to find the one that goes down to about -25 degrees.
I agree!! Did I explain? The first number is the temp of where you put the sensor. Mine is outside on my porch. Tonight I think I will put it in my hoophouse. The next number is the temp inside the house where the thermometer is. Then the time is on the bottom. A great stocking stuffer. It is small. You can also push the button and up come the lowest or highest temp. that day. And you can set the alarms for a minimum temp and a maximum temp.
What would we do without our kell?
Hey did your Mom ever get to see her thread?
Kell, I got a set of these last year (Brand name-Oregon Scientific)and just love them. They look pretty much the same as yours except the sensor units also have a digital display. I have 3 units with one base inside the house. With the push of a button, I know exactly how cold it is at each end of the gh as well as (get this) what the water temp in the pond is! One of the units I got has a sensor for water :-). Each unit was about the same price you paid Kell. You should see if you can get other units for yours, I bet you can. Only thing I don't like about mine is that the alarm isn't very loud.
Kell-do you have to protect the outdoor sensor from rain?

Yes, Kell, thanks for the heads up on the little gadget. I am on my way to HD and/or Lowes to see about getting one to use here..This is the first year I am depending on an enclosed patio to maintain plants over winter, so am also going to look for a heater that will furnish some supplimentary heat for those occasional frost days (nights) we get. Got any suggestions for a heater, too? LOL..Kris
Thank you for posting this, I have been looking at this post all week, today, I finally get to go look for one.. Thanks..
Hi Kell:
What a great find.
We looked around hd today and couldn't find it.
What dept. did you find it in?
Thanks Kell,
Sandy
I'll answer--the Garden section where the thermometers are.
They also had one for $30 with a soil/water probe.
