Now the link works. BTW, I see it says "mygreenhouse" in the address line, not just "greenhouse"

Judy, you're a lucky gal to get such a nice gh, even if it was some trouble to install!

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

Looks like dogbane's!
Should have borrowed his manual!!! hehehe
:~)

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Judy, you will surely enjoy your greenhouse. Are you going to have a commercial type person do your glass glazing or do it yourselves. I have never been involved in a glass greenhouse, but think it would be great. Donna

New Orleans, LA(Zone 9a)

Judy,
It looks like we're at about the same phase of construction. I wish I had done the two rows of blocks like you did. The low side of mine is shorter than I am, and that is going to be a problem for overwintering my bamboo palm, etc. Good thinking on your part!

And Darius,
Thanks for the link on the decorative Garden thread. What a hoot! Not quite what I had in mind for my yard, but can enjoy it from afar!!

Just got back to this forum today. Rutholive, We're going to do the glazing ourselves. Don't really know any greenhouse specialists around here but the installation instructions are pretty detailed and I'm hoping it will go ok. Badseed, Wall was detailed in the installation instructions. I think, in my case, it is necessary in order to make the GH high enough over the porch besides making the low end high enough to stand up in. Is it too late to put a wall under yours? That would also probably mean changing your door openings.

Thank you all for the good wishes.
Judy

Finally! Except for the wiring, it's done. I'll have pics up in a day or two. Have to find the #&%% camera. LOL

LOL, congratulations dogbane, can't wait to see your photos. :)

New Orleans, LA(Zone 9a)

Here are the final (maybe) pics. It does still need a bit of 'polishing' and remember, the floor is only 7' x 12'. Nonetheless, it's mine and I'm thrilled to have it!

The plants are in just for me to feel it out. We're leaving to visit the inlaws for the holidays so I am leaving the bulk of them in the sun room where the temperature is controlled. Right now we're having cold nights and warm days. I wouldn't want them to go through too much of an extreme while I'm away.

dogbane, is that greenhouse a kit? Looks like polycarbonate panels. You're really going to enjoy it!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

dogbane... Congratulations on getting it completed. It looks GREAT! (as we say in the South, You done Good, LOL.)

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Dogbane, that looks really nice. You are going to have so much fun with it!

Seattle Burbs, WA(Zone 8b)

Hey that looks awesome! I'm looking forward to sharing greenhouse growing tips and stories with everyone!

New Orleans, LA(Zone 9a)

Thanks ya'll. I really am looking forward to it. I've already got more seeds than I could possibly grow in there, not to mention mature plants and all the cuttings I plan on! LOL Of course, that doesn't mean I won't be trading and collecting more...(voice turning lusty)

Skyeblu, it is a kit and the panels are fibergalss. I think that polycarb is different, but with the Orwellian use of language these days, who knows. 8^P

It looks great,I'd love to put one like that off my livingroom......

Looks like a Merry Christmas gift... From Dogbane to Philip.
I am so happy for you that it is finished and you can move in.
Just one question.... Where is the hammock in there?...LOL

It looks great Dogbane. I'm envious that yours is up and ready to use. I know that you're going to have a wonderful time with it.

New Orleans, LA(Zone 9a)

Well, I've moved most of the plants in. Somehow, I ran out of room before I got to the ones I deluded myself into thinking I purchased the GH for. Does that mean I have to get another or a larger?!?

Wow , Your GH is looking good Philip,
.......You might find a little more room by placing the bench along the slanted wall instead, since your standing headroom is not needed there and you can still have your seed flats where they are. That way you will also gain space for some really tall brugs or other tall stuff......... Just a thought.... as I see a lot of wasted space right now =)
Later my friend,
§

New Orleans, LA(Zone 9a)

Hi Scooter,

I agree that I still have a lot of wasted space. I've mostly just lumped everything in there - my time isn't always my own right now.

I don't have many very tall things to go in there and I put the bench on that side because I built it with a tall back onto which I can hang broms, orchids, etc. I do need to scoot (hehehe) the bench down another 8" or so away from the door. And I have a storage shed where I keep tools and supplies, though under part of the bench I have a few bags of soil right now.

As I get it better organised, I'll post more pics.

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Wow, that looks great. Are you having fun yet?

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

dogbane, looks great. Are all the pots of plants that are sloping, the kind that need little or no water. I guess where you are located you don't need to worry too much about heating. You are going to love it. Donna

New Orleans, LA(Zone 9a)

I am having a blast, MaryE!!!

The pots that are sloping are mostly broms and orchids, with a fern or begonia or two among them. Overall, they are epiphytes so the roots are more for anchorage than water/nutrient absorbtion (though I do fertilize the pots and keep them from drying out too much). I keep them hanging in a similar fashion on some Foster Holly trees during the warmer seasons.

No, I don't have to worry a lot about heating - just a couple of nights a year. And for that I've got a little propane heater. It'll be the heat of summer that I'll have to worry about. In GH's where I've worked we'd sometimes have to water 2 or 3 times daily just to keep things from cooking. But I'll be placing shade cloth over the roof when it gets warmer.

Thanks for all the support!

Have a great New Year,
Philip

Stockton, MO(Zone 6b)

Philip, looking good! You could put up some shelving on the house side for more room to stack plants.:>)
In my little greenhouse, I ended up with barely enough room to turn around. Don't ya love being surrounded by plants?
Have fun!
Eileen.

oops, my mistake,
......... I thought the frame for your epi's was attached to the building.

dogbane, that is a great idea for the orchids,I think I'm gunna do something like that tomorrow out in mine!

Houston, TX(Zone 9b)

Dogbane,
I'm in Houston and bought this house 18months ago. There is a concrete GH slab laid off the back of the garage. Now that I'm seeing yours, I'm so envious, I can't stand it. Who did you buy the kit from and do they have a website? I know I can put my orchids and begonias in there. It is so cool! Thanks for putting the info up for us to see. Fabulous. I guess that's what's great about Dave's Garden.

New Orleans, LA(Zone 9a)

Crestedchik - I'm flattered you like the idea so much, but I can't take credit for it. I saw it done elsewhere. A word of advise, though. Try to make it as flat as possible. The top rung on mine is a 2x4 and the next is a 1x4, which causes more tilt. I don't mind some tilting, but that's more than I really wanted.

Margaretx - I got it from Turner Greenhouses and they do have a website. I actually bought it online. I don't have the url handy, but I'll try to post it tomorrow. It is a kit and takes at least two people to assemble. If I had worked on mine steadily, it could have been finished in about 1 1/2 to 2 days not including building the base. (now if I only knew what to do with all the spare parts! LOL)

New Orleans, LA(Zone 9a)

Margaretx - the url is:
www.turnergreenhouses.com

You'd think even I coulda' remembered that! LOL
