I can't even come up with words to tell you all how much I appreciate the sharing of brug cuttings! I intend to share-share-share as soon as I can..I know my little sticks will grow and prosper next summer, so I'll have some to send out too...I'm trying to do my part to fill the USA with brugs!
cuttings for postage or trade
David, my check is in the mail today.
I personally don't know who is more generous, David or Shirley. It's a tossup as far as I'm concerned. Hopefully, next year I will have cuttings to share, because I sure have a lot of cuttings of my own now, thanks to all the nice people that have sent them to me. I hope that I have thanked everyone in the past, but if I forgot anybody, I'm thanking you now. I wonder if any of us have sat down and figured out just how much money we have saved because of all these generous, sharing people? I think we would be amazed.
I forgot to also mention how much time and trouble it is to pack them up, go to the post office, stand in line, and mail them. I sent out just 3 boxes last week of morning glory bush cuttings, and I wondered how in the world some of you do it?
Not only the money we have saved, but the possibility to have so many more of these georgous plants than we otherwise would have. I have a good collection going now, and hope that by this time next year I'll have some of the "prized" ones to share.
I will be pruning Dr. Seuss and Frosty Pink soon. I know that all of the "old timers" will not be interested, but maybe some "newbies" would want one. I will only have a few.
Thanks everyone for the nice words.
Shirley,You're right I said I was going to do it and I will if it kills me! I'm a man of my word and I am very dedicated to growing these brugs and hope within the next year or so to have something of my own to introduce to the world.
I did feel thought that I needed to recognize the people who helped me get started in the begining because if not for them, that list of plants would not have been possible.
And for those of you who thought that list was big, that was only cuttings taken from about 35-40 of almost 85 varieties.
Just wait til next year.(LOL) I'm taking applications for helpers next season!
I have never shared brugs, because I haven't had any, but I sure can relate to the time and trouble it takes to package them up adn ship em off etc only to have no posting that they've received it etc. I have been pretty lucky for the most part, but I don't offer something to be sent if I really can't spare the money without getting it in advance. Most people ask me for seeds and a good ol SASE will do for that...sorry I am starting to drone on and on......
I am really don't need anymore brugs-between tiG, back2back Donna and Padre, I am pretty well set up for my first year. But I sure do love that COral Glow-it is one of them that stuck in my mind when I browsed through the BGI site. I bet David is busy getting all those out....
I didn't read all the posts, but I know there are bunches of requests for cuttings. If you have cuttings of ANY Brug left please include me and e-mail, and we'll work out details. I will be out of town through Mon. 11-17, will check mail then. Thanks!
Peter
If you have any left, please let me know. You are so kind to share your beautiful Brugs with us! :~)
I received mine today David, all 9 of the 10 I requested, they look great too. Didnt you say that postage was to be $7.00? The box I just recieved was postaged for $3.95?
DH is threatening to me that he won't be giving me m.o.'s or checks anymore up front. :-(
Julie
David, I received my cuttings today. Thank you so very much for your time and generosity. I really appreciate you and if I ever have anything you want a cutting or start of just let me know.
annabellegabby, I'll send you a check for the difference of $ 3.05
Anyone else who sent $7 and your postage didn't total that ,please let me know and i'll refund the difference.
All cuttings are gone and if you have mailed postage within the past few days i'll send it back.
I also mentioned that some of you may not get all that you asked for as some of them were in very short supply and they were going out on a first come first served basis and that's what I did.
Quite a few people were generous enough to send extra postage and insisted that I keep it for my troubles.
This was a major task that I took on doing this. Many hours of cutting, lableing and packing as well as trips to the post office.
If anyone else wishes to dispute the amount of postage that I asked for against the actual cost then feel free to email me about it.
I certainly wasn't trying to rip anyone off or make a profit from doing this.
I mailed out 23 boxes yesterday at a cost of $128.50 and some of that came out of my pocket.
I guess since there are going to be problems concerning the amount of postage asked for when doing something like this ,then this shall be the first and last time I post a cuttings for postage thread on this site.
David, Thank you so much for the cuttings! They look great!
I knew you where in for lots of work to get all this done, and that is why I added extra "postage". I will always do that because I really appreciate somebody that will go through the trouble of sending cuttings to a total stranger.
If anybody requets money back they should be ashamed of themselves. Just think how much these cuttings would cost if they where ordered from a nursery.
Again, Thank You,
Kris
David do not send me my excess back, I knew it might be more or less and the extra was for your time which probably wasn't enough. I too just sent out boxes of cuttings wrapped them nicely in saran wrap labeled each stick boxed them up and took them to the post office stood in line for quite awhile before i was waited on and was wondering what had i gotten my self in to when i went out to cut my trees back . I had to label each as i cut them seperate and put in water a sum odd 100 sticks i 'd say, I still have some to mail out i had to take a break. whew it is a job , and I thank you for your generosity for such exceptional variety at that
Just think
......What these cuttings would cost if you went to buy them somewhere....prob around 10 to 15 dollars EACH....
I never count excess postage as a loss. And I do send extra as a rule.
I just count myself lucky to know such generous and giving (of their time) people here.
.....A Big Thank You For All The Work You Do For Us !!!!!!
OK...I'm done for now ;~P

edited to read:........... Sorry Kris, Didn't mean to reply the same as you did basically...I just didn't read your entire post.
Looks like we think alike =)

Springsong for those of them that have not done anythign like this yet they don't realize how much work it is. I mean I hand cut over 500 cuttings and hand wrote over 500 lables and hand applied those 500 lables to those 500+ cuttings then hand selected and hand wrapped and hand boxed all of them to be shipped out. Not to mention having to stand in those lines at the post office.
It just saddens me that some are not going to be satisifed with what i've done here to try and help so many get plants that they might not otherewise come across in their hunt for new brugs.Quite a few of the ones I listed are in high demand and not so easily obtained.
Next season i'll think long and hard before I decide to do something like this again.Should I do it again next year the cuttings will be larger and fewer of them.
I'd like to add that there are supplies to be purchased to wrap the cuttings. Paper toweling, plastic wrap or bags, tape, and labels are not cheap either, not to mention the trips to the PO (gasoline) and the time....oh my the time. I think you have done a great job David. You took on a lot for your first big sharing event. Here is my pat on the back!! You did good my friend!!
I saw David's list and I would say that 9 cuttings for Seven is a pretty good deal, it cost a ton of money to raise brugs. He had lots of brug's that new people wait years for, so I would say that everyone probably came out pretty good on their end. It is nice of you David, when some of the great people here helped me out I sent them a Snowbanks in return because I had nothing to offer but postage, I tried to send extra to the ones who would take it.
David, haven't received mine yet but no worry if the postage is less. You are absolutely right - it is a very large task - I haven't done it with brugs but I have mailed plants for postage and whew!!! It is a lot of work and I do appreciate it!!! I only had unnamed whites in abundance to share and I just took them to work in buckets and it was still a pain. Brenda
David, the cuttings arrived today. Thank you for all your labor. A gift given is a gift twice received - by the recipient and the sender. Love is one of the few things that the more you give it away the more you have of it. You must be very tired now. Once you relax and get some time between the labor and your rest you will pick up a glow of interior warmth from reflecting on all the joy you brought to so many homes. Rest in that joy and let all negative emotions fall away. May you have peace and serenity in having done such a great service. Padre
David, you are one in a million and I don't blame you a bit if you never do this again. I sent you extra money on purpose to cover supplies & time. At least you made sure to get something for postage first before mailing. I sent out 20 boxes a month ago - in advance - and two people still have not paid me back for what I spent to send them a dozen+ cuttings each. It is hours & hours of time plus the supplies. I'm out over $17 not including the supplies. I'll never be that trusting (or stupid) again. All my extra cuttings have gone to the compost and been frozen solid several times.
Just want to add that it takes alot of time and effort for everyone here that does SASE.. believe me I know.. I have done some SASEs for seeds and plants at two different garden sites and the time, wrapping, taping, going to the PO, not enough postage..etc..
I sent a little extra and I know that doesn't begin to cover what it would cost if I purchased cuttings.. so, just want to say thank you and please do not send me any postage back..
David, I think what you did was one of the most generous, time consuming jobs one can do. I have only sent out 4 boxes of plant cuttings, and I know from that little experience what a job it is, and I didn't get postage on any of them. I didn't ask for it, because on 3 of them we traded, but know that it is expensive. I can't believe that anyone would quibble over a couple of dollars when they received 20 to 30 times that in brug value. I'm sorry that 1 or 2 people mistook your generosity for greed. I sent you a little extra for the postage, but don't think even that amount covers your time, or your expense in raising these brugs in the first place.
I just got back online and saw all of this, and David...you should be ashamed for implying that I even asked for the money back. I didnt.
Any of you that read the post should clearly see that I did not ask for it back, as a matter of fact, I was going to get on here tonight and say keep it for your trouble. If you read the post you would see that my husband is the one giving me the money, picking up the money order's for me to receive these and it was being honest what I said he said to me.
You know, I tried to email you catsmeow (David) several times to ask if you'd received my postage...I never even heard from you David. I believe you should be ashamed for making me look unappreciative and most of all uncaring of all your work you did.
Keep the money anyway for your trouble. In the real world anyone that knows me, knows Im a Christian woman and I will not be a part of people who insult and judge one so easily without knowing the whole story. But again, I guess the "newbies" get judged alittle more harsh than the
"oldies".
I will say again as I said always and still stand firm
God bless all of you and you especially David for turning this into something it wasnt.
Goodbye
Julie
I didn't really hear David say anything. I'm sure his feelings were hurt after all the hard work he went to, just to share with others a little of his bounty. Maybe we all just took your post a little the wrong way.
Of course after someone implies that theyve been asked to give postage back after all the hard work they did, Hmmmm I think I would be alittle bit sensitive to that person too. But that just wasnt the case at all.
The thing is...I never asked for it back. Ive been judged, ruined, and plagued because someone implied I did.
Maybe if you do this next year David you could say $7.00 shipping and handling. But when your shipping priority mail it does cost more to ship across country. I have shipped south for $3.95 and then west for $2.00 more for the same weight depending on the distance from the giver and the receiver. When shipping plants it's hard to judge the amount for shipping for the shipper. God Bless Everyone, Cathy
But you did question that fact that he ask for $7 and your box had $3.95 (?) Then went on to say your Husband was going to quit giving you money. As far as "Newbies" being judged harder, than "oldies", my statement was that he was offering things that most newbies wait years for, because these are things that aren't generally put out for open trading. The only thing that is being judged, ruined, and plagued, is David's kindness, and yes it is hard work and expensive to send out boxes, most people want everything for postage. Never stop to think about the supplies involved. Those tags bought from a nursery supply are about 21.00 per thousand for the cheap ones. It took me three hours to pack 11 boxes today. I can't imagine trying to keep up with 50 or more request, for postage.
I haven't been a part of this amazing cuttings shipping (I tried too late!) but in following these comments, I might suggest one thing.
If there is even a slight concern about something sensitive, like cost, a personal e-mail - which doesn't potentially expose another person to criticism by those who are reading on the thread - might be the better choice. It is sad that sensitivity on both parts showed up, when so many people were so delighted!
As for the suggestion to charge S & H, I doubt that is acceptable to Dave. One might check the Coop Guidelines. We simply have to do these things as a personal contribution, and expect that dealing with so many people, something may go wrong or be misunderstood.
I didn't call my self judging anyone, I too am a christian but i admit i let the "old me"( what we call the flesh nature at my church) get the better of me some times I am sorry if I hurt your feeling julie,by my post I thought it was unlike you to say anything like you did, it did strike me as odd, any way I don't want any one to have hard feelings to me or any one else here this is such a fun place to come and such a givig family here maybe this just got thrown out of proportion tonight. I am going to bed and get some rest and will be a much happier person in the morning......God Bless
I wasn't trying to imply that you asked for the extra back, but you did infact question the amount that I asked for. Now that we are on the subject if you still have it I would like very much to have that box top back with the postage lable intact.
Evryone with an ounce of brains in their head would know that 9 cuttings such as the ones i've been sending would definately outweigh the $3.85 weight limit for shipment.
I think it's like pdkrones said, that issue of money should have been handled through personal email and if anyone had a problem with postage on their box it should have been sent directly to me instead of being posted publically for everyone to see.
I expect that the direction this thread is leading in that it will most likely be removred by the time I get home from work.
Thanks everyone for the kind words. Maybe I just take things the wrong way sometimes but,she may as well have shoved broken glass under my fingernails as get on here and post something like that.

Take care Dave sending cutting is a massive on taking of ones time. I know I just got through with my 3rd and last large shipment for the year. 16 boxes of about 16 types of cuttings each took me from 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon to 4:00 a.m. Monday morning to complete cuttings and labeling. Then I had to wrap, box, and address. Got throught at noon. Took a couple hours nap and then went to post office to mail. I always set a limit but it's hard to say no especially to newbies. I remember when I was a newbie. Also remember when you pay someone through pay pal they are charged a fee so I always send a little extra. Many of us are on our own when we do this with no help and it takes a very long time to get it done. Thanks for you have done for everyone Dave
I mailed my postage out on Monday so hopefully you will have it anyday!!!!
sue
OK, if she wasn't asking for the postage back, why post it? Sympathy? Sorry but it was tacky. THEN she comes on and lectures David about how HE should be ashamed???? NERVE! You can call yourself whatever you want, actions speak louder than words. A simple, I'm sorry, I wasn't thinking would be better than that attempt to turn this around on David.
Anabellegabby, You are being more than alittle hard on Dave. After all he did not write most of these posts. My feelings would have been also hurt. I am a newby here and seems I miss alot of these posts Darn. But have you tried to find just an unamed white for 7.00.
Before I was a christain and probably a little while after
( I am not implying this to you) To get out of buying something or to say I paid too much...I would use my husband (I would say my husband doesn't like this or he is angry and says he won't let me have anymore money. I used him because it was easier than saying it myself and sometimes I even got the difference back. But this was on stuff, when I thought about it wasn't worth what I paid. Did not make what I did right.
So when you said "DH is threatening to me that he won't be giving me m.o.'s or checks anymore up front. :-(" I am sorry but I thought how awful, Her husband doesn't realize how much of a bargain she got. And now he is going to stop her from getting anymore plants. Then I thought about my past and I would have said to myself Wow I could get alot more just for postage Brug cutting with the left over postage. I am not saying this is what you did, but anyone who has been like this or has been greedy could read that out of it.
As far as when you said "Ive been judged, ruined, and plagued because someone implied I did." I am saying this in love. You were the one who implied you wanted your postage back. Everyone else was talking about how much work it is. Check out the web sites that sell these cuttings. The prices are way too much for me.
I never dreamed in my life time I would ever find a place like this. I figured I would have white. pink and yellow, gold forever. And the only cuttings I would have are mine if I do it. I never knew there were other colors.
Thanks to all who share and the generousity you have in blessing others.
Sorry this is so long.
Annabellegabby I feel this won't be held against you. There is too much Love here.
P-S-Just alittle greedy: Dave, Please don't quit I didn't get any yet. ; )
Love to all
Sandy

Thank You very much. God Bless.
Love to all.
Sandy
I apologize to anyone who took offense, I guess I am new to all of this and I made a mistake. I truly thank all of you for being so generous and kind, not only here in the Brug forum but in the Prayer forum too. I would appreciate it if you all could find in your hearts to forgive me. I am so deeply moved at this moment. My heart is so heavy. I feel as if I want to explode right now. I wont ask anymore from any of you, except to accept my apology and my deepest gratitude for being my friends until I messed that up. And the love you've shown to me by sharing and all the work you do in doing that. I honestly have never done this so I had no idea, believe me.
I dont know what God is doing right now to me, but I feel his presence. He must be dealing with me because he know's that I'll be humble because he knows my love for people I have to have and how important friendships and fellowship is to me.
Again, if you can reach deep down far enough into your souls to find forgiveness in your hearts for what I said up there in the posting I would be most greatful just for that.
Im sorry for all of this and especially for the pain I made you feel David. I do want you to keep it. Please believe that.
Your Sister in Christ,
Julie
Very well said, happy ending! David is a really nice fellow.
