West Texas Mist Flower (Eupatorium greggii)

good. i wanted to ask you something on this plant. have you ever seen it bloom earlier in years with good rainfall?

for me this plant is like catnip for butterflies. i have seen queens, sulphurs, black swallowtails and monarchs all over it. dozens at the time.

I have seen it bloom in the spring and in the fall. It sure does attract all types of butterflies. We haven't had very many butterflies this year as compared to past years.

that's what i thought.......i think it depends on rainfall don't you? seems like in the fall it begins blooming pretty soon after the first fall rain. and i'm thinking if it's watered well in the spring that that might help it bloom then too. i am going to try keeping a patch watered next spring to see if i can trick it into blooming at that time.

It might. I'll do the same thing and we can compare notes.

it's a date then. and i want you to know that i use your picture up above every time i want someone to see the "power" of this plant. it is really remarkable how the butterflies act around it. i have a big patch of this plant and i would need a wide angle lens to capture them all.

I'm happy that the photo is useful to you! :o)
