Franbollan?

Knoxville, TN

I just returned from a trip to Cancun. While there, I was struck by the beauty of some trees planted along the streets in downtown. They had foliage not unlike a mimosa, but the blossoms were more like those of a trumpet vine, and that same orange-red color, too. The trees were covered in blossoms, appeared to be leguminous, as there were long green pods hanging. I didn't find any dried pods, or I'd have tried to bring home a few seeds. I did find young plants that looked like the same species, but of course I'd never have been able to bring them back to the U.S. (and yes, I'm aware that there's a reason Customs confiscates plant materials - I'd have grown it in a pot indoors forever, since I live in Tennessee where such a tree would die in the winter if outdoors.)

When I asked at a local restaurant for the name of the tree, I was told "Franbollan." I'm not sure the waiter understood my request, though, as I haven't had success on the Internet in looking up this name. Could it be a Royal Poinciana? That's all that I could find on this site that resembles the trees I saw. Sadly, I never had my camera with me when I wanted to take pictures of the trees.
