is out of his glass box in which he has spent the last 44 days and nights. In this time he has lost 60 pounds in weight but gained 3,000,000 pounds in cash
David Blaine
Where in the world did the 3,000,000 pounds come from.
I bet he could use a shower.
Bird
TV rights world wide I think.
Wonder I can lose some pounds and gain even more in dosh!
I read about this bloke in the New York Times a while back, but I forgot if he had any other claim to fame except taking us residence in a glass box.
Nothing like taking a tinkle in the Thames.
Bird
he does more interesting illusions that sitting in a box.
A tinkle in the Thames? You can get arrested for that LOL
A shower and a nice cold beer.
I wonder if the stench from his bodily functions was an illusion. Let's hope so, and that he did not pollute the Thames.
Bird
If he keeps that £3 million instead of giving it to charity then I hope it chokes him. I find that kind of money vulgar when there are so many people in the world that are starving!!
Otherwise what is the point?
I agree, psilo...there are children living in cardboard boxes in alleyways and eating out of trashcans he makes a nice tidy sum by staying in a glass box for a few weeks. Weird. Tells you something about where we all stand as a human society doesn't it?
EEWWWWWWWW, Birdsall, I never even THOUGHT of THAT aspect of it!!
Psilo and Sierrawoman - I am in agreement with you. It is obcene to me to see that gap between the haves and the have nots expanding.
Bird
I have to admit, though, I DO enjoy seeing his (Blaine's) illusions and people's reaction to them...but I think he's pushed it over the edge now....
I agree, Bird, it IS obscene....what do you think it will take to turn it around? Maybe we shouldn't "go there"....?
Sierra - Quite frankly I think that our culture has gone beyond the point of no return. Empires rise and empires fall. Who is next? I cannot tell. Arrogance takes it course and ultimately fails. Now Walmart is up to bat. I am not unhappy to be in my advance years, but I do feel sorry for what lies ahead for our children and grandchildren. You and I are very fortunate to live in Western Michigan.
Bird
Yeah, I know...but things seem to be spinning out of control up here, too. Un-controled growth, people building multi-million dollar houses for a family of three...16-year olds driving around in new SUVs with credit cards and cell phones....It sure makes me realize how sweet my childhood was, even though we were poor farmers scatching out a living in Leelanau County. Life was much more simple and innocent back then!!
you cant complain about David Blaine. Just look at the cast of Friends being paid millions per episode.
Mark - I do not think we are complaining about David Blaine. We are simply making some observations about where our culture headed.
Bird
well complain was maybe too strong. now what can I do to clear my debts hum....
Just go out and plant 100 daffodil bulbs. That will do it.
Bird
well David Blaine chose not to eat but I cant eat right now !!:( and I wont get £3 million for the priveledge. Instead I will have to pay our spirralling NHS charges for drugs that do not work!!
My jaw has locked. I can barely open it. The anti imflammatories the doctor gave me are useless. But look on the brightside. I might end up losing 4 stone like DB!! LOL
maybe Poppy would work better....
Sierrawoman - I could use some Poppy if you have some extra.
psilo,
what is NHS? I didn't mean to make light of things for you...quite the opposite....we have three kids, no insurance. Our middle son had an accident and had $500.00 worth of damage to his teeth----no coverage. Our youngest needs braces---no coverage. Our oldest is in college---no financial aid----$14,000 a year, plus expenses.
At least "Friends" makes me laugh....helps me escape. for 30 minutes.....but I hear what you are saying.
I love basketball, so do our "kids" (they are 13, 18, 22)----they all play the game---- but I can hardly stand to watch it on TV because I know that most of those guys make enough in a game to send all three of our kids to college for four years each....and it seems our government here is more concerned about foreign affairs than what is about what going on in our own country....it makes a person wonder...........
Hey Bird,
I never said I HAD any!!! I just said maybe it would be more profitable than Daffs!!! But trust me, I AM the sharing kind..IF I had any to share....which I don't.
And it's probably just as well because that's how dependency comes about---or so I hear!!!
sorry Sierrawoman youve lost me!! I wasnt having a go at you at all. If anything I was making fun of DB. I was just trying to make light of my situation which after 3 weeks has really started to get me down :((
What is this about poppies?? I have tons of opium poppy seed in my fridge? I sell it as part of Psilos Seeds. Wouldnt do me any good though because Opium is extracted from unripe poppy seedcases. :)
I readed about David Blaine crazy thing from newspaper..Heheh, sounds pretty mad to me..But it sure was exciting. I am sure that he had boring time in there, heheh.
I think he is in still in hospital.
It's a crazy thing---what people will do for money. I think it all boils down to what he is planning on doing with it (the money). I would imagine a good portion of it will go for groceries!!
Hey psilo,
how are you feeling?? sounds like you are having some rather serious health problems....
And now we are listening to the episode of the nut that went over Niagara Falls recently.
Bird
We have a good friend here named, yes, you guessed it, Kirk Jones! So there was a freenzy of phone calls amoung our community of friends who were concerned that it was OUR Kirk Jones who went over the falls!! We all know he's a madmad (I mean that in a very good, loving way, of course!!), but it was quite a coincidence! I was at a soccer game between our homeschool team and the local high school when I saw Kirk's truck go by, and not two minutes later, my husband called on the cell from work asking if I had heard about Kirk!! I was happy to inform him that our Kirk was alive and well and driving about Benzie County as we spoke, and that somewhere out there, there was another Kirk Jones who was no doubt cold, wet and a whole lot of trouble!!
Sierrawoman I am feeling more or less ok today thankyou. For the last 6 years I have suffered from Fibromyalgia and CFS with recurring and very severe clinical depression. I have good and bad days but the bad days can leave me feeling very ill indeed. But there is no need to worry as I am quite used to it after all these years and still manage within reason to lead a pretty much normal life. I think I cope with it quite well as I now have reletively effective medication and pain management. I have also learned to pace myself. Fibro is a constantly changing illness and you never know where it is going to attack you next. At present it is attacking my jaw and upper joints. The anti imflammatories have reduced the pain in my joints considerably but my jaw is still locked. The doctor tells me it will probably take 2 to 3 weeks for the medication to be effective, so fingers crossed :))
People who suffer from long term or terminal illness for no gain have to show incredibale courage created by positive thinking. That is why I find such stunts performed by Blaine to be so insulting!!
psilo,
I totally understand and I totally agree....you're getting mail soon!
~SW
Our government is worried about foreign affairs BECAUSE of what went on in this country? Remember 9/11?
Of course I remember. I had two very, very close friends who died in the Twin Towers.

Thank you, Bird. After thinking about it, I decided to edit my reply. I am not sure that DG is the right forum to discuss political beliefs....maybe it is. But I will say this much: I believe, with everything I am, that what our government is doing in Iraq and other countries has absolutely nothing to do with 9-11.
PAX
Ditto!
Let's remember that we cannot discuss politics on this site, due to hard lessons learned in the past.
Thanks,
Dave
Roger. Dave. Roger, Dave...
Understood, Dave. Sorry to you and to sierrawoman.
Since we have a lot of folks we know (60 families) who have just traded their green uniforms for tan ones, I'm a little sensitive right now. It could be my husband, and within the next year, it will be. Sorry for getting uptight. I meant no offense. Sometimes I take things more personally than I ought to.
No worries, smilin32. I have two sons that are of draftable age, if things ever came to that. I have some very good friends who served in Nam. No matter what one's political beliefs are, I think that where we all come together is in our prayers for those who those who serve, and those who are victims of, war. I pray every day for them all. Sending you hugs.
