Lilacs

I have been looking for a fregrant Lilac that will do well in warmer climates i.e. Atlanta, GA. So far I have come up with Betsy Ross, any other experiences?

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

Forest Farm has a great list of lilacs that will do well in warmer climates. Their prices are reasonable and they send good plants in my experience with them.

Their list includes:

Angel White
Dark Knight
California Rose
Lavender Lady

Hope this helps you.

Thanks, I'll check Forest Farm out.

I hope you can find the lilacs that you want. I love mine and don't think I would want to be without that wonderful flower in the springtime.

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

I live in Jonesboro, GA, Had 3 nice ones that we brought from PA several years ago. Only one has bloomed and the others got a powdery mildew on them. I finally jerked one out of the ground this year - it's poor leaves were deformed and it was in the sunniest spot I have. Just don't have room for things that don't bloom for me! Good luck on your search.. I think your best bet would be a local nursery that should have things for this climate.

Let me take this opportunity to invite you to our DG Round-up and plant swap coming up this Sat. Oct. 18th at High Falls. We will have a great time meeting fellow gardeners.
Email me if you have questions.

I have received a Lilac starter from someone and with this Texas heat, I was a bit concerned on whether or not it would grow, so I called our local nursery, (whom I trust their opinion; as I do several dealings with them) and asked them about it, and they told me that you can grow lilacs in the Texas heat as long as it gets the morning sun and afternoon shade, so I planted it behind our house where it will get the shade in the heat of the day.
