Aren't these great!! I had a heck of a time starting mine. I "scratched the seeds and soaked them for about 30 hours but when they came up wow. I only had 5 seeds. My question is-Now that they are mature I have lots of pods. Do I pick them and dry them myself or should I just leave them on the vine? If I leave them on the vine when should I pick them? I wondered if a person was to take a pod and remove the fresh seeds, would they grow?? Surprisingly this vine did well with the 113degree heat and it gets about 6 hours sun.I have morning glories next to the moonflowers and have a heck of a time keeping them separate. I have never had either one of these and wonder how it would be if I let both vines intertwine?

Lisa, you must have "gold" in that there soil! LOL ALL your plants just thrive - we so appreciate you showing us what 'could be' if the conditions are right. Hugs, Jo

LittleShima,

Leave the pods on vine to dry.
I use a small pair of pliers
to just snipe a little shell
off in spring & soak over night
before planting.

Kay, you are too sweet. Littleshima, I did not presoak mine, just put them in the ground. I left the pods on the vine until they were dry, then picked them. Mine get full sun until about 3-4 pm.

Jumping in here with ya'll. I had a bunch of vine seeds that I mixed all together and Moonvine was one of them.
I simply scattered them out around the trellis and before to long the had sprouted out. No soaking required on mine. But then again we did have a wet spring this year so I'm guessing the more water you put to them the better(while they are in the ground outside)
Mine took off and grew like crazy too! I have tons of seed pods that I have yet to collect because they are still too green.
Year before last I had them, and was excited about collecting the seeds. I picked most of them when they were brown on the vine, but then closer to the end of the collecting season I went ahead and collected a few that were still a little green and thought I would let them dry out in the house. Well they dried and then when I started taking off the shells, I found that they were a differnt color of seed. I chose to keep these because I was pretty sure they were duds! and I was right!!
So my opinion is leave them on the vine until they are really brown in color like the ones above have already posted.

Hay everybody,
THANKS. I am learning so much from you ladies all over the country! Its fun learning how things grow where you ladies are from. I'm going to just let go and let these morning glories and moon flowers do their thing and see what happens. Might be fun.
Thank You All for not thinking this"Little Shima" has got the dumbiest questions!
