Holly's yellow brug ..unamed

Coal Center, PA(Zone 6a)

Not a good photo as it was getting dark.
This unamed brug out of my daughter Holly's college experimental hybridizings has come along very nicely.
It is pure yellow. Does not change colour during the bloom. And the skirt nice and flouncy.
I showed it first here as the colour of butter.
Soon as she decides a name I will register.
It is sister to her Phantasm's Tears.
I like this one much (o:

Gorgeous, love the skirt. Looks like she could get up and dance.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

LOve the shape and color! Call it "Holly's Pride" Or "Fancy Dancer" Or even "Golden Belle" Like a southern womans hoop skirt? :-)

Looks lovely, beautiful shape.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

What a pretty one Alice.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Very nice! Kyle has good suggestions on names, like them all.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Wow, that's a beauty even though it is not pink. LOL

Alice, saw some more of your brug pictures on Ebay. Maybe they were your auctions, but I didn't know for sure.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Very pretty color and shape on this one Alice. I like it.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

If this were white,I would suggest a name akin to Marilyn Monroe,It looks like her skirt, when she posed over the air-vent in the sidewalk, since it is yellow, maybe,Holy smokes that is the widest yellow I have ever seen,LOL!

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

This is a beauty, Alice. Love that skirt!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

It's really pretty.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Very nice Alice.

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

root doctor, her name was Norma Jean. Perhaps that would be good or the name of the movie, Bus Stop. I also remember seeing some dancing flowers in the animated movie
"Fantasia", perhaps that would be a good name...
Alice, will your wonderful daughter have cuttings of this available anytime soon?

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

Very nice Alice! Tell her to hurry and name her baby.

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

Congratulations Holly for a job well done! Gorgeous flower!

Marshfield, MO(Zone 6a)

Kinda reminds me of a Flamenco dancer's skirt.

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

Holly's accomplishment should be acknowledged in the name. When I was her age, it meant something to me to see my first by-line, though I wouldn’t have admitted it. It's still kinda nice to come across my name in print.

The color is wonderful (and I’m not a fan of yellow flowers). I don’t recall seeing such character in the form of a yellow brugmansia. Still, it would be a pity to spend the brief syllables of the name trying to capture the color. I think it’s better that the name celebrate the flower’s form. It’s also good to leave something unsaid.

I like the idea of emphasizing the skirt with a reference to dance. To reflect the sense of movement in the skirt, it would need to be a whirling dance – a waltz. The bloom also shares the elegance of the waltz.

I'd suggest 'Holly's Waltz' ... or 'Holly Waltzes.' Using a verb animates the name and echoes the sense of movement in the skirt. It makes Holly's role more active. Her knowledge of the science of hybridizing is clear, but making Holly the dancer brings out the creative aspect of her work.

"down the Shore", NJ(Zone 7a)

Will be interested to hear Holly's choice of name for this beautiful brug!

Coal Center, PA(Zone 6a)

Thanks so much for all this input (o: I am printing so she can read.
I am so impressed by all the compliments, suggestions, etc.
I know she will like seeing (o: (And hopefully finally help decide a name!)

Holly is the serious but fun type. Much like her mama ;-)
The reason so slow to name is it has to be the 'perfect' name.
We are both like that.
If I can get propagated enough the next months, we will offer at the Karchesky site spring 2004.

Holly's degree is Horticulture Genetics, PSU 1998.
My expertise is Horticulture, Design and Education. And also an artist.
But I have learned much from her knowledge so I do better.

Since these hybridizings ..she pretty much walked away from and left to me to grow. ha
There is another from this group I will eventually show with small bells. Very nice (o:
She went on to add another major in fine art/graphic arts. A very talented sculpter, painter, jewelry designer, etc
photographer, movie maker. It's been difficult for her to decide a niche she wants to concentrate. lol

Since we finalized the farm this year, she has started growing organic vegetables and exotic chickens and eggs.
And starting a tomato and pepper seedbank this fall.
At PSU she worked with the development of cold hardy, salt tolerant, high nutrition tomatoes ..
the first one is patented and out just this year.
So she has that good knowledge to her advantage, also.

I was disappointed she gave up her hybridizing and growing ..as she was doing so well so young.
But a wise mother .. it is her life and she has to find her own way and happiness.
So I watch and wait. lol

But I have seen seriousness return in her work this year.
And know now ..like her mother ..she cannot stay away from the plants (o:

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8a)

All I can say is WOW!!!!!!!! What a beauty!

Marshfield, MO(Zone 6a)

Be sure and keep us posted when you offer it, that is certainly one I would like. I did get the pollen you sent, Alice, and have already put some on EP.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

that is gorgeous .....

I have not as yet had a pure yellow bloom,I think I'd like one that looked like that

What kinda exotic chickens are you talking about?

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Here's an exotic chicken. It is an Aracauna and lays pastel-colored eggs. The title of this picture is:
"YOU WANT ME TO DO WHAT WITH THIS?"

Abutilon, Many of your genes surely are also showing in your daughter. Love the yellow flounced brug. Do be sure to let us know about the name. You both have many interests. Donna

Woodburn, OR(Zone 8a)

I'll be watching for this one too! it's wonderful!

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Alice that is gorgeous. Congratulations to Holly. I know I will be in line at the store for one when it becomes available. She has created two beauty's.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Its beautiful. Kyle had suitable names for it!

Does mine count as exotic?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Gosh Karyn, where are his eyes? He is a beauty. Yes, I'd sure say exotic in his case. I could handle growing chickens like that.

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Hmmm, perhaps my joke was a bit tastless? Well, as for the name game, how about Holly's Fandango?

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Alice the yellow brug is lovely and I think it is wonderful that you and Holly have so much to share and learn from each other. No doubt between the both of you, a vary nice nice name will be decided.

Coal Center, PA(Zone 6a)

Woodspirit, we have Aracauna. Very neat birds.
Right now they are laying blue eggs. Also, very neat (o:

CC ..well you know the Polish qualify as exotic! ..lol
I know you raise some very nice Polish.
We have several. I think I like best of all her birds. The Golden is expecially beautiful.
I like the gentle temperments of both these varieties.

And she has many other chicken varieties.

But 'Isabella' is our most famous chicken. A bantam Black Cochin, she is an 'actress' along with Autumn at the Renaissance.
A very smart and gentle bird who will perch on your arm (or head) and become part of you.
We have raised her since a peep. She will walk along side you, carry on a 'conversation', never stray.
She's a sweetie! Shown here with Autumn at the Renaissance Festival.
Everyone loves Isabella (o:

Holly's yellow brug does remind me of Marilyn Monroe's skirt, too. lol
There are very good name suggestions here. I am printing this thread out for her.
Thanks everyone (o:

beautiful picture. Is this Holly? She looks so young to have been college and doing all that she does.
I used to think all chickens were dumb. But we had 3 hens and a Leghorn rooster who got killed by 2 of my naughty dogs. The runt hen took over as the matriarch and she was feisty, funny and smart. We really liked her a lot.

Coal Center, PA(Zone 6a)

Holly's yellow brug FINALLY has a name .. 'Cherchez la Femme'.
Anyone care to guess what this French name means? LOL

Colorado Springs, CO(Zone 6a)

maybe... cheers to the woman?? haha i dont know about french. thats a neat name, adds mystery to a beautiful bloom (to me at least) i think its so awesome the relationship and knowledge and passion you share with your daughter. i too got my love of plants and art from my mother:), so thats very neat to me.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I have no idea what it means, but it sure sounds good.
