It finally bloomed!

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

Hi everyone! May sound silly, but I have been waiting ALL season for a triple datura bloom! Not quite as special as my first brug bloom, but up there.

I'd like to collect the seeds, but it's getting down in the low 50's here at night. How long does it take for these seeds to ripen? Can I pot the plant and bring it in for the seeds to ripen? And - is this the type of plant I can cut back and keep over the winter. I know they're often grown as annuals, but it took over 6 months from germination to first bloom and if I could have a head start by keeping the plant over the winter, I'm game to give it a try.

I've never tried to over winter one. I just start the seeds around February for summer bloom. If I can get to the pods on mine and if they do ripen in time, I'll save some seed for you. Otherwise, I know several people will have it.

sbarr....Your pic is so pretty. I probably have about 10 of these plants in your picture. The seed pods seem really slow to ripen. (Some of mine have taken as long as 5 weeks, and then some only a week or so, go figure) But when they do, there must be close to 100 seeds in there. And they are so easy to germinate. This year I had a 'quad' bloom. It was great....I'll try to post a pic of it here. (I'm wanting to know if the seeds from that pod will produce quad blooms....any input anyone?)

I normally bring a few plants in for the winter. They even bloom indoors, but not as much as they do outside during the summer. I leave them by a window and only water once a month.

This Datura (Black Currant Swirl or Cornucopia) likes the same fertilizer program as a brug. I fertilize once a week without fail. I even have plants in pots that are about 4 years old. Hope this helps......you will really enjoy them. Wait until you see 10 or more blooms on that plant at one time.

Kell.....I have some seeds, I'm emailing you now!

:)

OK...someone tell me how to post a pic....LOL

Well Duh.... I sure feel like an idiot! LOL OK, here's a picture of the quad bloom this year. Not a very good picture, but hopefully you can see all 4 blooms.
