Kell, your courtyard is a paradise!!!
I am in heaven!
dufus, I live in the mtns. of NC and am growing a couple of bruggies and my sister-in-law has one, too. We have seen others here.
Here is the main question that many of us begining to grow them: WHAT DO YOU FEED THEM AND HOW OFTEN TO GET ALL THOSE BLOOMS?
I use MG as a foliar feed and should use it more. I also throw a handful of time release osmocote whenever I think of it which is not too often. I also use rose fertilizer with insecticide when I find mites on any one, they all get a dose (THOUGH BE CAREFUL TREATING BRUGS IN POTS FOR THEY EASILY BURN WITH THIS STUFF).
I wish I had fed more! I also threw alot of cheap HD ferlizer they sell in big white 20 pound bags into the brugling garden and they really loved it.
I also put a bag of steer manure around each plant at least once a season. They are not too picky! they love everything as fast and as often as you can. If I find some fertilzer with minors in it I will use that !!!
I have Leonotus leonuris as well and do not want to lose it. I was going to bring it in but if hardy to 20F I think I'll pull it out of the monsoons and try it out all winter and collect seed as a backup. Of course, monsoons seem a tad bizrre when we are in the middle of a drought. Dawn
someday, someday, my yard will look that good!
Kell, your garden is beautiful. I wanted to tell you that Golden lady that you sent me is covered in buds now. She dropped her first few but is absolutely loaded. I just hope she blooms out before our weather turns cold.
Hey Kell would you save me some seeds. I had 1 plant that came up from some seeds I got a few years ago but it never bloomed before it froze. I didn't know it would come back and threw it out. Now that I know it comes back I'll plant it in the ground instead of a pot.
Donna, the lion's ear seeds?
I have extra plants of L. nepetifolia if you want them. They are not hardy for me.
What is a fertilizer with minors? teen-agers? precious metal hunters?
Yes please if it's the big tall orange flower.
Donna, I am not sure if you are answering me or Kell. LOL Mine is a bit different than hers. Here is info on mine, with a reference to Kell's. http://www.floridata.com/ref/L/leon_nep.cfm Let me know if you want these plants. They will not live here over the winter. :( I have extra ones that are 3-4' tall. I don't know if they will fit in with the brugs or not. LOL I can always mail two boxes though!
LOL Woodspirit. No, it is added micronutrients to the fertilizer that works in conjunction with nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium such as magnesium and calcium. Some brug growers swear by its benefits. Scotts puts out some like Peters Excel. Tracey who used to belong here, grows super big and fast blooming brugs and loves the stuff!
Kell your courtyard is beautiful, and all in pots. Are they watered with little drippers or by hand. Anyway just beautiful. I planted Lions Ears seeds this spring and they are just beginning to bloom. I am afraid we will have frost soon, and don't think they will set any seeds, but i still have seeds in my s. packet. Great photos. Donna
I'd Love to have them Chele. I can keep them going in the GH til spring then put them in the ground. Thanks
Kell I would still like a few of your seeds if you can spare them.
Okay Donna. I am planning to get a bunch of stuff mailed out of here on Saturday.
Thanks everybody. Now I know why my Leonotis didn't look like Kell's. Seeds were given to me only as Leonitis. It obviously is the nepetifolia and not the leonurus.
Anyone (Kell) going to have seeds of L. leonurus?
Linda
My seeds were given to me as leonurus. It wasn't until I grew them for three years, did I find out through the pdb here at DG, that I had nepetifolia! LOL lhughes, I think Mary in la is looking for you, maybe on the strawberry creme thread?
Kell, you courtyard is breathtaking.
I will only have seeds if you all sing Johnny Angel with me.........
Thanks Barb but that is but a better than usual corner! LOL
LOL Somebody is too modest!
Not true Chele! I am sitting here in the nude!
And you wonder why you have strange critters and sounds in your yard???? Sheesh!
That is because my DH ran outside and refuses to come back in.
I have been looking for Peter's but have not found it in our little town. I may have to go over to the next county.I think I will let my "fingers do the walking" though, first.
Ordering on line isn't bad until you have to pay the shipping. A 26 pound bag of Peter's Excel cost me over $18 for shipping. Just had to try it once, but I won't do that again. What is left of the bag I'll use on seedlings and go back to plain Peters for the bigger plants. If you have a Lowes store, they carry Peters.
Thanks, Brugie, you are always a help
You're welcome.
What great pictures--thanks for sharing--wished mine looked like that--your ground must be blessed!!!
Darn it, after saying I was glad this picture was Rosamond because it was one I had, I remembered it was the cutting that rotted. Bah Humbug!
Hey Kell I have Lion's ears too, I put it out a couple of years ago for the hummingbirds, and now it comes up all over the place, I go out each spring and pull up tons of them or they would take over.
Tracey, what kind do you have? Mine don't self seed.
Leonotus Leonuris. I bought it from here http://www.basementshaman.com/
Cool! I know Logee's was selling them last year for $15 a plant! Next time you yank seedlings, think of me. LOL
So glad to see you back Tracey! We missed up so much ..... my hand is pointing to the sky! We need some of your special pics of your special brugs to liven this forum up!
