I have allium (the flowering bulb) and collected seeds. Has anyone planted allium seeds successfully . . . what method did you use? Stratification? Fresh?
Allium seed
Allium seeds should be both fresh, and stratified. The seed should be sown the same year it's collected because the germination rate diminishes quickly.
Winter sowing them is a good idea or you can stratify them in your fridge for a few weeks. Lots of the alliums will re-seed on their own if you leave the seed heads on the plants.
