Strange occurrences

Been reading Elena's bragging forum and thought it might be interesting if people shared any strange experiences they had, not necessarily in the garden, but that'd be great, too. You know the kind of thing, coincidences, premonitions, ghosts, angels, fairies, etc. I'll start you off with a story of a ghostly house where every evening at around 6.30 a ghost came in the front door, stomped up the stairs and went into this room. There was then the sound of a chest or something being pulled across the floor. Then silence. How do I know this? Why, dear reader, because I was there, in the room right next door.

This is spooky...we were living in a rented house in 1977, in a small town of about 15,000.
We were in the house for about 2 weeks and it was summer holidays so the kids were raring to have late nights and later mornings.
After bedding them all down, and then ourselves all seemed normal.
About 3:00AM there was such a noise from the frontroom that it woke me and my husband. Well, we were furious, there was a party going on in the other room. We could hear laughter, music and people in general making party noises.
We were fit to be tied. My husband had to go to work in about 3 hours and we were not in the best of moods being woken up.
We got out of bed, put on robes and went out the door ready to do battle with a mob of partying teenagers.
We were greeted with complete silence, the most complete silence you have ever heard.
Not a person to be found, not a light on, no music, nothing.
We checked on the kids, all 6 were sleeping soundly, and for real.
Was it a dream we were sharing? I mean we heard furniture moving and everything.
We said nothing to the kids. Two days later our youngest told us she was not going to sleep in her room anymore,could she move in with the oldest girl. When asked why, she just said there were too many people in there at night and she could not sleep with all the noise. She was 6 at the time.
Needless to say, we moved soon as the partying and noise got worse.

So far I pesonally haven't experienced anything. However, a friend of my husband told us a story that gave me goose bumps.The friend's 19 year old brother was killed in a motor cycle accident. His mom had one of those old treadle sewing machines and on the deceased brother's birthday, they woke up and the sewing machine was running on its own. He remembered that was one of his brother's favorite things to do as a child was to play with the treadle on the sewing machine.

Patty, I hope it is a plumbing thing...cheaper than moving.
Nebraska_Jewel, since the machine was one of the things that made him happy as a child, one could assume that he was trying to tell his mother he was fine and happy now.

Its often debated as to whether animals have souls.

When I was 16 and working in my first farm job I was sent out to find a calf that the mother had hidden very well. I spent an hour looking in the ditches and thick hedges and eventually wandered into the 2 acres of oak copse in the centre of the farm. The sunlight came out strong through the oaks and the shafts of light made it quite hard to see in some spots, then I saw a baby guernsey calf sitting in one of the shafts of light. Beautiful sight, tiny pink nose wrinkling with breathing and a white star on her light brown head. I stepped forward enchanted by the sight (I'll never forget it) and the light moved, there was a stillborn calf lying in the very spot, with a white star on her head. I've often thought it must have been a trick of the light but inside I still believe I saw her tiny soul enjoying in the sun.

I have 2 windows in my bedroom that open and close by themselves. Often in the morning when I get up, a window slams down! I just say, "Thank you" and go about my business. Later on if I go back upstairs the window is open again. Sometime I wake up at night, and theres another window open, then I will get up and lock it! I do keep a close watch on my cat, all seems normal, because they say if theres something ghostly or a spirit in the house a cat can sense it. They say if you see a cat moving it's head like it's watching someone, it may well be! Now I'm scaring myself!

My only 'ghostly' experience is somewhat recent. My best friend of 25+ yeard died suddenly about 2 years ago. Not long afterwards, we had weekend company, and my housemate bunked in with me so friends could have her room. Later that night, I came to bed and she was already asleep. Soon, she began talking, and for maybe 20 minutes, I thought I was talking with her. However, I finally thanked her for helping me with moving the woodpile earlier that day and she said SHE had not helped me move the woodplie. Finally, she made it known she was my deceased friend, Gaile, and NOT jan. Jan was not amused the next day when I recounted the conversation... made her feel a spirit had used her vocal chords without her permission. Still makes me wonder what I missed by thinking all the conversation was with Jan, and not realizing it was a Voice from the Other Side. And, still gives me goosebumps.

djm906 I would say thank you also, you would think it would at least close the window on bad weather nights. What you say about cats I have heard before.

I was in a shop in my local town, and as I queued to be served, a phone rang and rang. Finally, about 5 minutes on, it was my turn. As the girl behind the counter did the tot on her till, the phone rang and rang. Well, I wasn't in a hurry, and I thought she looked a bit flustered, so I said "oh, go ahead, get the phone - I can wait a bit longer"
She looked at me -"I can't. It's not there".
"Not there?"
"No, it rings and rings, but there's no phone, no line, nothing. The telephone engineers came down, tore into the walls, everything - but there's no phone. There isn't a line or anything! just the one to our own shop phone".
"Now, see, it's stopped". she said. "It happens every day about this time - drives me mad!"
As I left the shop, the phone at her elbow rang and she picked it up - "yes, again, as usual" I heard her say as I went out.
Shortly afterwards, the shop shut - it was boarded up for several months, and now I notice they're razing it to the ground. Wonder if they ever found the phone!

Holy Smokes! Vinca. I hear you've got more than your share of them overthere as it is. When you have buildings that have been up since the beginning of the town, I guess it's not as uncommon to have events deeply impressed into a structure.

Any good, odd pub stories?

The house we live in is really old and the people that owned it before are the ones who built it. I am home during the days and my husband usually works late if the weather is good.When we first moved in I was never comfortable, always felt like I was being watched.We have a barn not far from the house but I would never go in it alone.I also started having alot of accidents and once the large gate we have started to fall on me,if my husband wouldn't have been there to catch it I don't know what would happen. Well everyday for about a week when I would go turn the covers back for us to go to bed I would see a man standing in the corner of the room with his arms crossed but he wouldn't be there when I looked again.It has all stopped now but I did get to meet the lady who's husband built the house and she told me he had died here.That explained everything.
