Does anyone here have a cutting of Strawberry Creme they will sell me? Love it.
Strawberry Creme
I lost mine, so maybe someone who still has it will share later this fall. Sorry.
Brugie... You Lost it!!? I have mine still going. I'll have some cuttings to share.
Sue, I lost about 15 - 20 cuttings last winter. I think they didn't have a good enough root system when I took them to the basement and we got very cold last year. I'm sure minigrannie would love to chat with you about one. I've offered her a cutting from another that will look much like SC, but it probably won't bloom as well. I'm glad yours is still doing well.
I would like to get in line for a cutting.
I just checked the pics on the Brug database and SC is not on there. Anyone have a pic???
I would love to have a cutting if you have an extras. Thanks.
It is in BGI Gallery of pics.
I'd also like to get on a list for a cutting of this and am willing to share or pay postage for it.
It will be 6 weeks or so before I start cutting the brugs back. I'll make a seperate post when I'm ready to send out cuttings. I should have lots.... I need to thin out my collection and get rid of some.
Here's Shirley's thread about Strawberry Creme. http://davesgarden.com/t/303386/
ok guys, i have a couple of extra stalks of this.
#1 caveat, i have been spraying for mites. they should all be gone but i cannot be certain.
#2 caveat, i'd like to mail to one person and let them distribute them. those who know me know, i hate packing plants. might have something else to throw in...
Wow you have to start cutting back in 6 weeks. That is so sad.
Arlene, I would be glad to do it for you.
Thanks for the link to the pic Sue. Know what? I NEEEEEEED that one too! LOL Pleeeeeaaaase!
this is in the mail to Mary today. thanks again Mary.
oh! how I would love one too!!! SC is on my GOTTA HAVE list. LMK if there are any extras, pretty please with sugar on top!
Please, anyone who has Strawberry Creme and would like to share, I would love a cutting or two. Be happy to pay for it.
Minigrannie, you were the first to ask, and i believe Mary will be in contact with you. i mailed cuttings to her yesterday, about 6 feet worth, lol. hardwood below the Y.
Sylvia, looks like you are almost set now. Glad you are getting this one. Wish I could have helped. Maybe I'll have to get it back from you one day. :-)
Yippee, sure hope so. Can't wait to hear from Mary.
Brugie is the greatest! If I do get a start and can keep it growing, I certainly will send you a piece.
Well I guess i'll jump on the wagon here also. Please put me on the list Mary.
If I am on anyone's list for this, you can pass mine on to another person. Some showed up in my mail today. :) Wooo hoooo!! Thank you!
Badseed, I sure wish I had a friend like yours. I want one so very much. Guess, just because the name sounds so good. Strawberry shortcake with whipped cream has always been my favorite dessert. lol
LOL Mini! You are dealing with *friends* here on this post. :) I have no doubt one will show up in your mailbox before too long. Won't be long before people will be sending out brugs left and right. Darn shame we don't all have greenhouses or twelve foot ceilings. LOL
I had a greenhouse where we lived before and it was wonderful. I grew cuttings of plants and planted seeds in the Winter, and by Spring, I had lots of plants to start. The only thing that overwintered one year that I certainly didn't want was a copperhead. Didn't discover him until I was taking out the last rooted cutting of my impatiens, and out popped his head out of the tray. I had to go in change. lol
Giggle! Yep, I imagine that is one suprise I would not like to find living happily. LOL I don't really mind snakes but we don't see much of anything dangerous. And that is a good thing since I am the one that has to relocate them to the woods.
We lived in the country before, and the country in South Texas is full of all kinds of critters. We had copperheads, coral snakes, centipedes, black widow spiders and tons of scorpions to contend with. My plants had to contend with grasshoppers, deer, gophers and cut ants. It was really frustrating sometimes to leave for work in the morning with beautiful daylilies, etc. blooming, and by the time I got home, all the blooms had been eaten by one or the other. Speaking of things being eaten, my brug cuttings and small plants are on my covered patio right now and are being eaten by something that is chewing the leaves and leaving thin spots that look as if they have been sucked dry by a vampire bug. lol Any suggestions as to what could be doing the damage? I haven't seen a bug of any kind, and I don't think slugs would crawl on my tiled patio. It would cut them to pieces. Whatever it is must be a night creature though.
Minigrannie, Snails crawl on my tiled patio. I have a small table and chairs on it and just about every night I find some snails on the table. YUCK! I don't leave anything on that table at night. LOL I used to leave half green tomatoes on it to ripen but I sure don't leave them there anymore.
This was my first year with Brugs. People were so generous to mail cuttings and seeds. It is a joy to
walk out in the evenings to the wonderful fragrance!
Don't know if the cuttings I received were below the Y or
above the Y. They still did well and smelled great.
For some reason Misty Valley Pink got larger than the others. It is on it's second flush with about 50 blooms on it. But the fragrance was overwhelming. When I first walked out it made me think of odor of those mosquito coils. Has anyone else thought that?
Did you get all that growth, and all those blooms in one season? Mind have not done anything like that. I have 5-6 ft. seedlings that have not Y'd yet.
Linda, it is not unusual for seedlings to not bloom the first year. It all depends on when the seeds were started. I started some in November that have just bloomed their first blooms. I have others that I've started in early March and had several flushes of bloom the first summer. I guess it depends on the seeds and the environment they are being grown in too. I love growing seeds for the challenge and the surprise when they bloom, but we just never know when it will happen. You may still have time to see a bloom or two. Threaten them with being composted.....maybe they will Y quickly. Hope so anyway.
Brugie,
The seedling of strawberry creme x tropical sunset that you gave me has finally Y'd and has little flower buds on it. So i'll get to see it bloom this year after all!
Linda, I have seedlings that I planted in February of this year that are blooming, but I agree with Shirley I think it depends on the seeds and the growing conditons and all that other good stuff. I did push mine to the limit with fertilizer and fish emulsion though. I'm surprised I didn't kill them by doing that so heavily.
I have one that is blooming for the first time tonight that is out of Dr. D x Whiskers and I measured the tendrils at 2 and a half inches while the bloom was still curled up yesterday.
Cat, give us a photo.
I have more Dr. Seuss buds and 2 Insignis pinks that may open by next week end. I hope next summer will be "something new every week." I'm turning one of my upstairs rooms into a "brugery" for the winter. Hope I can keep them cool enough.
lhughes, I tried to contact you by email but it bounced, I have the strawberry creme cuttings ready to send out, can you contact me?
Mary, got the SC cuttings today. They're nice. Thanks to Arlene for sharing them with us and thanks Mary for getting them out to us all.
Mary and Arlene, Thanks so much for the cuttings. I received mine today.
mine arrived today, WOW they look great!!! thanks Mary and Arlene, I'm feeling like the luckiest girl in the world!!!!
Even if your seedlings look blah, please post them and tell us the cross so we can figure out which ones are good crosses and which ones seem to put out less desirable off spring. That would be great!
Yes, please let us know what blooms you get from your seedlings. We are interested.
