Saskatoon Berrys

I'm wondering if the seeds from Saskatoons could be easily
grown? I'm not sure how common this bush is in
the States but I know it's a favourite up here. Would
people be interested in the seeds from this bush? It
makes a fantastic pie!

Dad was a transplant from your neighbor to the west (now a ghosttown - Sheerness, AB), so I would enjoy trying to transplant a Saskatoon Berry to California. If the berries don't grow I'll have to come up there and taste one of your pies. e-mail me with details and anything you might like from California in trade.

Did your dad say how much he enjoyed a Saskatoon Pie?
I think the Saskatoon makes a better pie than the
Blueberry. There just isn't enough of them cultivated
for mass production.

Saskatoon berries are legendary up here. Every ex-Sask person's eyes glaze over happily just at the memory of them. They don't grow here.

I checked the site-they say Saskatoons grow from
zone 1 to zone 9!?! The soil should be sandy and they
should be planted on a bit of a slope. The people that
run the above site said they are now growing in Vancouver!

I have seen many of them growing in a farmers garden,
flat land, so I imagine it is the drainage that is most
important. One friend watered hers often and hers grew
to the size of the larger blueberries.
