Does anyone else have this? Has it bloomed for you yet? I'm dying for mine to flower. The vine is growing everywhere... but I want flowers!

This is new to me, Poppy, what is supposed to look like?

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Here's Logee's picture. http://www.logees.com/store/prodinfo.asp?number=R1283-2&variation=&aitem=1&mitem=1

It's a member of the morning glory family. I love the foliage but I don't know as it's worth waiting this long for blooms.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

WOW, those are some beautiful blooms. Make sure to take lots of pics if it ever does bloom for you

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Sue, I just got this vine last month from Logee's too. It was only in a 2" pot and is already growing taller. Oh please don't tell me that I have to wait ages for it to bloom, I want them NOW. hehe

BTW, I can't believe the size of those leaves. Are they as big as they look? I will let you know how it fares out here in my zone 10, ok.

Donna

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Yes, the leaves are big. That's a brug it's starting to smother on the left.

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Oh my gosh, I hope it blooms...that is beautiful.

Mount Angel, OR(Zone 8a)

Oh, that is so pretty, Poppy, and you have got one too Donna, I am green with envy. I hope you gals get lots of bloom. Poppy, you must have a heated greenhouse to winter over some of your tropicals??? I am still hoping my merremia aurea does bloom this year, lots of growth but I am beginning to think it will take another year. :(

Woodburn, OR(Zone 8a)

Darn, I knew I shouldn't have clicked on that link! another one for my wish list!! I hope it blooms for you soon!!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I need to stay away from Logees, lol. It's a monster vine Poppysue, I hope it blooms soon for you.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

We have buds :) Good sign anyways. Seems like the flowers will hardly be noticible behind the big leaves. I'm trying to root some cutting of this before fall. My first batch turned to mush in water. Trying again in a loose mix of vermiculite, perlite, and sand. We'll see how they do. If I can get them rooted I'll share a few.

OOOOHHH its GORGEOUS....don't remember seeing that in the catalog.......

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

I just went out and looked at my Strictocadia, no sign of any buds yet, lots of leaves and vine going everywhere. I am trying to keep the vine under control in a metal thingy, Donna

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

It opened! What a long wait.... I almost missed the bloom.

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Well I guess there is hope for all things in time...I just bought seeds of some diffrent tropical vines.
How long did you have to wait for it to bloom Poppy ?? It's just beautiful ... :o)

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

WOW!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I like the color of that bloom. Beautiful. My list for Logee's keeps getting longer and longer.

Woodburn, OR(Zone 8a)

YOW!!! that's gorgeous! another one for my gotta have list!

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

It was a transplant I bought in the spring. The vine is 7 feet tall growing in a container. I've tried cuttings but they turn to mush pretty quickly.

Poppysue, Did you take your picture at night. Mine had a nice bud that i took a picture of in the evening, expecting that it would be in bloom in the morning. But i guessed wrong in the morning it had folded up. Now I have to wait some more. Another of the buds is showing color. So maybe they are a little different than MGs and bloom in the night. I think they will be difficult to get cuttings to root. i have been taking cuttings of several things and will try the Stictocarpus too. Hope you get some roots. Donna

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Have yall tried air layering it? That may work or can you get a vine to the ground and cover some nodes??... :o)

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Sue, that blossom looks just like the photo at Logee's. My plant is finally growing and I have 2 long runners going strong. I can't wait till next year to see mine bloom, hopefully.

Donna

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Donna, I took the picture late in the day... before the sun went down. It was still open in the morning when I got home from work.... I was able to get more pics of it. I'm not sure if it stayed open all day... I'll have to watch more closely with the next bloom. It's been cool here so maybe that makes a difference.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

It's beautiful Poppysue.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

It is beautiful!!! Just like in their catalog.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Sue,you just had to post a picture of it blooming...now I GOTTA git one.......

Woodburn, OR(Zone 8a)

Yep, that's a definite MUST_HAVE_IT plant!!

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

To be honest with you all...

The flower is definitely a beauty but IMHO... it didn't bloom enough, and the flowers are quite small for the size plant. I don't think I'd order it again. It may turn out to be showier in a southern zone with a longer growing period... but I thought it turned out to big for a conatiner. Growing it all season for a couple of blooms just doesn't seem to be worth it to me.

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Sue, that is such a beautiful bloom. I had to read all the way down this thread. I'm stuck here in Oklahoma and wish and dream all day for tropical looking flowers and plants. Enjoy.....they look gorgeous.

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

Poppy,
I too long for the tropical flowers and am just learning we have to weigh how giving a plant can be if we are to keep it in our Northern gardens.

But there is victory in that fact that you DID get it to bloom for you! It is encouraging to the rest of us who want to push the envelope on our zones.

And on that note I must get back to readying MY tropicals to come inside for the winter.

:( and I used to love winter until I became a gardener . . .

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Suzie, did this one ever seed or did you get any cuttings to root?
Old thread but still a real beauty.....

Dee

Port Saint Lucie, FL(Zone 9b)

Hey there. I ordered that vine too and I just got it planted out at my fence. I have had it babied in my pool cage for the past month. It is growing like crazy! I'll let ya' all know if I get lots of blooms as I am in zone 9B Florida and it is hotter than you know what here! Maybe it really just likes the heat. I'll keep ya' posted.
