Here is a pic of a few of my EEs. Had NO IDEA they would get so big.
You've shown yours, I'll show mine
Hey weeds, those are AWESOME! They are not the same kind as mine...have any pups? wanna trade?
Hey, you bet but later, this fall. Can't dig etc right now. Will make sure you have a few.
Great! I have one with your name on it!
Lisa, a question, is the butterfly ginger root edible?
This message was edited Friday, Aug 8th 9:00 PM
Not to my knowledge weeds. The edible forms of ginger usually comes from the Zingiber family, not the Hedychium. There are a couple in the curcuma family that are used for spices.
Holy Cow! EE's on steroids!!
and I thought mine were large--yikes. You must be afraid to go to sleep at night for fear that it will engulf you house. LOL Beautiful-verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry large but beautiful.
They love all the rain and neglect.
Thanks Lisa, was just checking. So what plant do you get when you plant ginger root from the store?
Most of my babies are promised for the time being but I should have lots next spring...they are prolific. Will be glad to trade then.
WoW lady, bet you're glad you didn't plant those by your pond--or is it hidden under there?
THe first pic does not show the pond but it is in front of all those plants. I am sure it will be hidden soon!
weeds, there are several different kinds you that are sold, with the most common being Zingiber officinale. Another ginger sold in asian markets could be Z.mioga
Thanks Lisa, I learn more every day!
Beautiful ears. Are those the sagitifolium?
Hi Cala, yep, it sure is.
Connie, you done good!
HOLY SMOKES WEEDS!!!!That thing looks like it is trying to break the glass or push the roof up!What do you have inside that it wants?good thing they are not carnivorous!!
Lol all of you. I think it is some kind of accident, never had them big like this before. They are now the curtains for the room, makes it nice and shady in there. We have had lots of rain this year, the last 3 years we have had drought so I guess they like that!
Root, I sent you of these....
Shirley, Bward and Roz, they are still growing...
if they are growing like that in 8a..can you imagine 9b???!! It could turn into the "Little Shop of Horrors"....heheh
Lisa, you will have to plant yours in the south forty just in case!
LOL! Hmmm, maybe it will eat some of these theifin'(is that a word..*smile*) little possums I have running around here. Perhaps dine on dillos.
Well, maybe but I can attest to the fact they DON'T eat squirrels, possums, slugs or caterpillars.
Beautiful ears. All that rain has made everything you have planted look so lush and healthy. Would love to have some of your moisture up here.
Brugie, those dry summers are a real test when you are growing things. It does, however, make many mosquitoes, flies etc. I will take the rain any day though!
Beautiful pond there Root. Is that taro Imperial?
Uh oh, look out, with all that water it might take over the entire yard.
Weeds, you also sent me gingers right?for some reason,I have Vi on my mind everytime I look at them, just my slow mind, the Ginger sat for sometime, now both have kicked up new shoots on the sides, very excited about them!
Yep, I did and glad they are finally growing for you, Lisa has made me a gingerholic. Hi my name is weeds and I.....
hahahahahaha! peace, love and gingers....heheheh
Lisa oh Lisa, you don't have your hair in briads now do you?
HA!
uh, make that braids..lol peace
I hope so too, you have a way with ears so not to worry. I never even heard of that one. I have a wentii that has not had any pups, does anyone know anything about it? Not hardy in 8a/b is it? It is about 3 ft tall.
Zone 7b-10, 18" tall, part sun to light shade, likes swampy conditions. This Taro is from New Guinea and according to Tony Avent is hardy in zone 7b. The one foot leaves are glossy bronzy-green and have a metallic purple backs. Looks tropical, but grows to sone 7b. Grows in a tight clump. Nice contrast to the Colocasia which lack the glossy leaves.
just found this.
Thanks! Does it say or do you know how to divide or make more of them? I want some in back where the EEs grow so good!
