I'm so excited - Part II The brochure

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Continued from http://davesgarden.com/t/390070/

We got 2 copies of the brochure today. It's so cool to see our babies in something professional like this!

There's a poster on the back of the brochure and I need to stitch together the six scans it took to get the whole thing (I miss the bigger scanner we used to have!).

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

Just as awesome as what you've accomplished!! How long have ya been at it, takin beautiful fotos that is?

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Oh, gosh, I've been a shutter bug since high school. I never really developed skills much until I got a digital camera and was able to just play and learn without worrying about film and developing costs. We bought our first digital camera, an Olympus C-2040z, in 2001. I sold it and got an Olympus C-2100uz last summer.

I used to do a lot of drawing, sculpture and music, but all that kind of went by the wayside once I discovered computers in 1994 or so.

I was ruing that loss of hands-on art in my life last night, and Howie reminded me that I've just changed mediums more than anything. I hadn't thought of it that way, but he's got a good point.

Photography is so satisfying to me because I can actually DO what it is that I see in my head. With drawing and sculpture, I had very definite ideas of what I wanted, but my skills rarely produced what I envisioned. With photography, I see instant results which are very close to what I hope for. Plus, with digital darkrooms, there is a freedom to tweak and make images really come to life.

It's such an absolute JOY to me! When I'm out taking pictures, I am in my own little world. Time flies by, hunger is forgotten until I realize my hands get shaky and I finally realize I'd better eat. And to think that maybe I could make a living, or at least spending money, doing something I love this much? Man, I sure hope so!

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

I am impressed! May I brag that I know a celebrity, a famous photographer?

If you can do for people what you do for these four-legged guys, you can make more than spending money. My DD and her friends have spent thousands for portraits with a certain touch. Last Christmas, we had a portrait made of me, Granddarling, DD and SIL, and afterward we went home and SIL snapped off a couple of shots of us "all dressed up". He didn't spend a lot of time or have any special lighting or props, but I like his results better than the famous and expensive professional we had just paid a king's ransom to shoot us.

I am a little envious, of course. But I blame it on my camera, not my lack of talent.

GW, I would phone or e-mail Natura (when you can get back into your program) and ask them to send you more brochures. I think that they might have intended to do so in the first place, but something got mixed up in interoffice communication. Natura probably has hundreds or thousands of brochures printed at a time, and I'm sure that they could spare some for the photographer who makes their brochures such a success (it would be good karma, LOL)!

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

Wow Kim, How exciting for you!! The pictures are beautiful and deserving of this credit. Wouldn't it be wonderful to make a living or some of it this way??!! Congratulations!

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

gw; sculpture and music too?? Both of which I have a hankerin for also! What kind(s) of music? Please say Bluegrass is on yer playlist!'
I took Basic Studio Sculpting last semester, would ya like to see the sculpture that got me an A?

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

Love the brochure!! That is quite a feather in your cap..but then you have the talent as well as beautiful models.

Bowie, AZ(Zone 8B)

Hey, TC, yes we want to see the sculpture...waiting.

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

Do y'all reckon it'd be okay if I posted a foto of it before gettin "permission" from gardenwife? I mean after all, this is her thread and sometimes I find myself actin like a hog on others threads!

Milo, IA(Zone 5a)

GW: That brochere is so awesome. You had better frame it and hang it over your couch. It can remind your dogs to pose for more.LOL..Since you took your other copy of the brochere to your vets. You could tell that to the company as free advertising and they would problably send you all you wanted to put around town as advertisement.

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

GW, love the brochures, they are sophistcated looking.

I haven't taken the chance to congratulate you on this from the beginning..so...CONGRATULATIONS!!! This is so totally awesome. I want a brochure too! Tell the company you want more for all your friends LOL...Beautiful dogs! So can I get your autograph now so I can say I knew you when???? LOL

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

The coupons arrived today, along with the addendum to the model release I need to sign and send back.

I finally took a picture of the poster on the back of the brochure. It's more clear than it looks here, just hard to photograph an unfolded poster from a distance and have it come out very crisp! Higgins checked it out for me...

GW, I am so proud of you! That is a very cool picture (above), in itself. Way to go!

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

You must be estactic to have your work printed. This makes you and your family celebs! Now I can honestly say I know somebody "who is somebody" Great Job!!!

Cambria, CA(Zone 10a)

Higgins is just critiquing the company's handling of his mom's excellent picture. You remember that I once said that we had a kennel and showed dogs all over the country when I was growing up? Well, one of the things that I've always thought was a cool profession was the folks that took the promotional shots of the show dogs. And there's a definite profession there. They are often used for advertising stud service. Maybe you should put a portfolio together and get your butt down to the next Columbus dog show and advertise your talents. You're good and you love the dogs. I've seen photographers who have tried this and the dogs just hated their attitude and responded accordingly. ------ I just spent 15 minutes searching for the professional shot of my miniature poodle, Cheltenham's Henry VIII (can you guess what era and what music, lol?). No luck. I hate when that happens. But such shots are not hard to find. Just check out some of the current dog magazines out there. I think you could have a fun career, Kimberley. Oh, and we paid dearly for good shots of the dogs. And cat breeders surely use the same types of shots, no?

What a great idea Stellapathic!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Hmmmmm, that is a great idea. By the way, Aimee, did you call Natura Pet Products and request brochures? I got an e-mail today in reply to some questions I had about the model release addendum, and Paul said this:

I am so glad to hear so much enthusiasm. We have already had a call from a friend of yours requesting some brochures. The call stood out because Karma has not reach the store shelves yet. I hope this interest motivates everyone to give Karma a try.

He also said "your posters and additional brochures are on their way to you". Cool beans!

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

gw; how may I go about gettin me one of those brochures??

Southwestern, OH(Zone 6b)

They look GREAT GW Congrats again!!
