How are your tomatoes doing this year

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Jul, the yellow pears I have are just one bite eating size, we just snack on them. Some of them have splits in them that run up the neck of the pear, don't know why but it might be related to watering when the tomato thinks it has grown big enough, not all have it. My tomatoes are all blanketed and athe blankets tied down to keep the wind from blowing them off, and then the temp didn't get as cold as they said, I just left the blankets on while I was gone this weekend but will have to uncover them to pick. I might get a picture yet.

I have those same tomatoes. We like them in salads. Yes, in the heat and if the watering isn't to their liking they crack. But there seems to be plenty so I don't worry about them.

I will be checking only weekly on Dave's, this is my busy season and I am knee deep in orders! Nice to hear from you, Jul

I am in the process of canning about 14 more jars of the San Marzanos! :) A lot of them had cracked skins, but when I peeled them, no damage was done to the flesh, so I have gone ahead with the canning. I'm very happy with the harvest this year. We were very lucky this season, no rain for most of the summer and high temps. No blight. Just a few slugs who decided to move in. :)

Glad to hear it. We had a very bad year. It started out well and turned into too much heat. My tomatoes did not fare well, but I am still optomistic.

I was hoping to can this year, maybe next..

I understand! Last year was a disaster for us. Blight everywhere and rot rot rot. I was lucky to haul in a small harvest.

Yummy! I will miss having my wonderful canned tomatoes from the garden this year. Our friends miss them also.

I had a harvest early in the season, but everything looks sick out there. No blossoms. Most are indet., so I was hoping. We will see. I have to get out there, so far, I am taking this day off and been stuck on the computer having some fun, some work.

Thanks for the pics.

You know what will happen Jul, next year you'll remember how you didn't get any tomatoes to can and plant extra and you will be swimming in tomatoes. This is what I did last year and it was my biggest year.

I will be canning more tomatoes this weekend, this will be my 5th batch (now I'm down to every other weekend).

Sue that tomato looks great.

Ok, Rub it in..... You are probably right.

Kathy T, are you going to come to the party down here? Have you heard about it????

Maybe you can take some time from canning and join us, better yet, maybe you could cook up something wonderful to bring with you from all your hard work????

Jul, I would love to go, but we are in the middle of getting the house ready to be repainted and it needs a lot of woodwork done before they start. Hopefully next time because it sounds like a lot of fun.

Sorry you can't make it, I know about repainting.

Just enjoy those tomatoes, hope you get a few more for canning before the season ends.
