This is Rosamond x L'amour. Tracey's beautiful photos prompted me to go out and examine all my seedlings. This is about the smallest Y I've ever seen.... and I do believe that's a teenie-weenie bud :)
I think I have a Y
Sure looks like it! WTG. All good things come to those who wait.......and wait.....and.........

I'm no pro,but it sure looks like one to me!Congrats, that will be a great one to see.
Life ain't fair! I just started the seeds last month. I have some three inch seedlings. LOL
Congrats,
it is an "Y"! You see the teeny bud. It looks like snow on it ( the small hairy stuff,:-)
There it is I see it Sue! Way to GO!!! Now go out there and tell it to hurry!
Be patient,smile...plants need time for growing.
gets some pom poms out n cheer it on :)
Sorry,.........smile....what is pom poms....please be patient.:-)
Sue, I am so excited for you. I hope it is a real beauty. I get you will be checking the size of that bud every day . . LOL
Pom poms are what a pretty girl shakes up and down when she is excited and wants to cheer!! Ra Ra Ra!
Poppysue I see a Y and bud! How tall is it? It sure budding early. I better go out and look at mine more carefully! LOL
Way to go Poppysue!
This must be my nite for sniveling....
You are soooo lucky,I did the same thing as you ...all because of Traceys pictures.....
I HAVE NO Y"S
I got excited today when I counted 15 buds on Creamsickle. I didn't think that one was ever going to bud for me. Now, I wait!!
Happy for you Brugie, my C is not showing anything!
WOW Brugie! I have yet to see a creamsickle up close and personal! So take lots of pics.
My creamsickle has 4 HUGE pods on it and is leaning so close to the ground chuck proped it up with a stick. It will NEVER be a alley tree...LOL
I'm afraid to let it bloom again.......
It's not very tall... Only 2― feet or so. Let's hope the earwigs don't get to that bud!
CC,
Way to go! What did you cross it with? Congrats on the pods!
Sue, you guys out east have had a tough time with the earwigs this year. Are you still getting lots of rains? We are very, very dry, so earwigs aren't a problem, but I'm expecting the mites to arrive at any time. My Rosamond X L'Amour is Y'd and has tiny buds also. Can't wait to see what happens with it. Protect those buds with your life from the earwigs. :-)
i just was reading up on earwigs and now i know what the name of the bugs are that i've been seeing for 2 years now. :) here are a couple of non chemical ways of getting rid of them.
If you don't like chemicals, you can try this trick: (This is the way they do it in Jamaica where the earwigs are BIG!)
Lay pieces of cloth down on the ground at night. In the morning, shake out the earwigs. In Jamaica they shake them out into trays of kerosene, which kills them instantly. (don't use gasoline!)
You could also try an old gardener's trick. Fill some cat food cans with a quarter inch of vegetable oil and place them around the garden. Empty the cans each day, keep doing this until you stop catching earwigs. They are especially attracted to fish oil.
well i've got the little cans and the oil, so i guess i'll try doing this. i'll let you know how it works.
I've also heard that you can lay pieces of garden hose on the ground and in the morning shake them out. Kind of like using a piece of bamboo, but easier to find.
Poppysue,
Thats very short for a seedling to be blooming already. Congrats on your bud and lets hope she is a stunner. At the very least, you may have a good breeder Brugmansia for patio style Brugs.
Sue mine bloomed at about 4' so I am not suprized by this height. I am so happy for you, and I can't wait to see what you get! Ludger, my comment was all in fun, I am very happy these are blooming so well and pretty, just teasing her about hurrying :)
OK ,I checked again and still no y!
Eric, my seedlings are growing totally different this year compared to last. I have one out there in the seedling bed that is making a Y at about two ft. Several others are Y'ing at around 3-4 ft. One at 5 ft. Last year they all were quite tall. Very strange as I'm not doing anything different this year than last. Oh well, I can work on making them taller, later, if I like the blooms and other necessary features.
How do you get Brugmansias to get bushier??? Do you pinch the tops or will that get rid of your Blooms?? What is a Y???........ As you can tell I'm new to this plant ... I only have the double purple and it has about 4 buds on it now, this will be first bloom for it....... :o)

Way to go Poppysue. I keep going out there and telling all my seedlings to do something and its not working. lol Think I need to threaten them with the compost pile and see what happens. lol
Yep I have a datura, sorry assumed they were the same as the angle trupmet!!!! Guess I should assume nothing......:o)
soon you will be an expert willowwasp! Even some nurseries think they are the same plant so do not fret! go to the plants data base and check them both out.
Welcome WW. Good to have another brug and datura lover here.
Don't worry WillowWasp, there is a lot of information here and plenty of people to help you learn. I've learned loads here the last couple of years. I had one brug and really didn't know anything about them til I joined DG. So join the crowd.
Welcome WillowWasp. I am glad to see that there are other people from Texas joining this group of brug lovers. Hope we see you here often.
Oh How beautifu these all are. I think I'm in love and will have to get some of these beautiful plants for myself. All your pictures are just lovely and Ludger thanks for sharing the photo of your brug..... another beauty..... :o)
WillowWasp--just fill out the release of liability form, We cannot be held resposible for any addiciton to brugs, or the consequences there of. lol its a sickness I tell you, beware------
Hey! I didn't fill out any release form, does that mean I can hold all of you responsible for my brugitis?
WW, I'm still learning too, everyone has been so generous and nice and very patient with me when I've asked bonehead questions!
Hey Carena, there are no bonehead questions. Some of us ask the same thing over probably, because we have "senior moments" , menopausal memory lapses, or whatever you want to call it. Ha!
OKAY, I STILL don't fully understand about a "Y". Does a brug have to have one to flower? What creates a "Y"? (I DID read kell's link above, but still somewhat in the dark.)
