I have a question. My Sanguisorba menziesii bloomed nicely this spring (thank goodness for plant tags, otherwise I would have been clueless as to its identity!) I'm just sorry I didn't get any pictures, as I didn't realize it wasn't in the PDB.
Anyway, now that the blooms have faded, I have these seed stalks that have little round seed pods (probably no more than a 1/4" in diameter) attached all around, up and down the stalk. It doesn't bear a resemblance to the way the flowers bloomed but these stalks do appear to be coming from the crown of the plant.
Before I go to the trouble of breaking these open and saving the teensy seeds from them, I'd like to make sure I'm NOT saving seed from something else...like a weed????
Sanguisorba menziesii (?) seeds???
Terry, If its from the same plant they are seeds, and they are on the same stem, collect away and they will dry, let me know if you want to trade.
Terry have a pic of it?

Not that I know anything about the species but you could try the real acid test and germinate a few of the fresh seeds to see if the seedlings conform to the shape.
I'll probably try to grow out a few jus to see what happens. it was very disconcerting to find these stalks coming from the crown of a plant whose flowers formed very diferently. I guess we'll see what turns up :o)
