Help,I need to find out about this tree? I know it grows from the seed that it drops, but how will I know that it will become an umbrella variety, or is there a chance it will become just another Chinaberry? My seedlings are appearing to be just that!
Chinese Umbrella Texas Umbrella?
I planted some seeds for the umbrella chinaberry and so far it look like it will be the umbrella type. It is about 5' tall and it is real pretty.

yardbird,
What size pots do you have your umbrella chinaberry plants in?
I have them in the ground, I planted them in a flower bed and then last fall I transplanted into their permanent spot.

What is the diffence between the Chinese Umbrella and the China berry. We have lots of China berry here and they all pretty well have an unbrella shape????..... :o0
HI Willow, and BTW, welcome!
As far as I know, they are both one and the same plant.
a lot of difference...
Chinaberry tree [Melia azerdarach] http://aquat1.ifas.ufl.edu/melaze.html , http://www.floridata.com/ref/M/meli_aze.cfm

Umbrella plant [Cyperus alternifolius] http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/interiorscape/cyperusalt.html
I was referring to the name that kinder first sked about.
it is chinaberry tree - but there is an improved type with has an umbrella shaped canopy, makes great shade - as opposed to just a chinaberry tree.
