sun/shade... young/old

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Here is Eventide. When it's young the growth is firm and upright. When it's grown in part shade, the colors are dark. When it's a mature plant(although it never gets more than 3 or 4 feet tall)it's flowering region is of the weeping type and when grown in full sun the colors are lighter. The following pictures are of two different plants, a young plant in the shade and a mature(old) plant in full sun.
The first one is of a young plant in the shade.

Another shot of the mature plant in full sun. The trunk of this plant isn't three feet long but the top spread is very wide. There are more than 300 blooms on this one plant. I just picked a dozen ripe pods from it a few days ago. It had another large flush a couple of months ago. The color may darken in a day or two, but they are usually lighter when in full sun.

Cala, divine, simply divine!!! I love this one, rich color.
I can't even begin to imagine a brug with over 300 blooms on it, that must be a sight to behold!! What did you cross it with for the seeds?
Isnt it wonderful about the variation of colors depending on the placing of the plant?
You certainly have the special touch with the brugs.
And even while you are packing etc., you take the time to post your photos. thank you.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

This looks like peachy pink. I love the shape, how the calyx meets the tube. For such a small plant to have so many blooms, sounds very special. Do you think it is the perfect brug for a potted plant?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I crossed it to Bert. The one in the picture is in a 3 gallon pot sunk in the ground(so I can move it easily). This one is the perfect pot plant. I've got some seedlings I'm growing out from last year crossed with several different pollen donors. They are half the size of seedlings from other crosses that are the same age. This plant seems to be genetically dwarf. Growth enhancing sprays do not cause taller plants.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

That is a beauty!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

The blooms do not look dwarfed or are they? I imagine a small plant with huge blooms. So great.

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

What a beautiful plant. I can imagine it adorning the gates of heaven.

Great looking brug.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

It's beautiful Susie. I raally like the one that is darker that is in the shade. Is the darker color the color of the blooms in fall and spring when it is cooler?

Burlington, ON(Zone 6a)

It almost looks like you have made it into a topiary plant Susie.
This one will be a great one for the northern Brug growers, that is for sure- smaller plant, does well in a pot, flowers on a younger plant, earlier and in big flushes- the best of many critera I will be needing when I have to decide where to start reducing my number of plants to over winter this fall.
Did you mention the fragrance on this one in a post that I likely missed?

city?? lol sticks, AR(Zone 7a)

Cala---the second shot made me literally think of the sound people think angel choirs make. Im being literal here. lol loved the translucency of the blooms in the sun.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite plants. I don't think it has much fragrance, but we can work on that! I'm hoping the cross with Bert(very fragrant) will deepen the color as well as add fragrance.
Frannie, yes, the colors are much deeper in early spring and in the fall as is common with all the yellow/orange/peach flowers.

Co.Wicklow, Ireland(Zone 8b)

This really is a breakthrough for the Brug World, I'm so delighted for you Calla!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Delecie, you have a way with words to create quite the image. Maybe we shouldn't be so afraid to die. Triple pinks galore!

FSH, TX

Wonderful picture Cala. Keep em coming.

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

LOL Kell. You're right, maybe we shouldn't be so afraid to die. After all, they are called "Angel's Trumpets".....

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

OK, I checked. It has a very soft fragrance. One has to stick their nose pretty close to smell it.

Heaven ; ), Denmark(Zone 7b)

Well, in that case I can`t let Lene stick her nose in it *lol*lol* When she do that with our roses there are rarely any fragrance left over for me :) Its simply amazing that this small Brug carry THAT many flowers. Wow! That is something to strive for making new crosses. btw. now I wish that I had planted more Brugs in the shade, but its too late now to move them :( *lol*

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I have most of my potted brugs in the shade so I will be very interested to see how dark they are. My DH just tore down a huge ivy fence that had grown out about 5 feet. LOL. I will now have a little more room for my brugs if I ever go home.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

I can't believe the blooms on your plants, Calla!! Especially that third picture. I don't think I've had that many blooms on all my plants put together.... all season long :-/~

I sunk poor 'Eventide' in the ground with some others brugs and now it's hidden under the taller plants. I might have to dig it up and put it in a pot so the poor thang can get some sun.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Poppysue, you made me look again! LOL. So pretty. it really looks like a dinner bell. And you are right, it is so heavily budded.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

I'm brug discouraged, Kell. I have so many huge plants that have Yed with nice healthy foliage... and no dang blooms! I'm not going to winter plants that will only spit out a few flowers in Aug & Sept. I've got to start thinking about what's coming in and what's not. Right now I don't have too many that have earned their right live inside this winter.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I heard what a great garden you have Sue. Do you think too much nitrogen? Have you tried 0-10-10? I would. I wonder what the problem is.

Are you taking cuttings or saving the whole plant?

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

calalily, I can't imagine a plant with 300 blooms. I'm happy this year with 3 or 4. Your plant is absolutely beautiful. Donna

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

A real beauty you have there Cala! I'm going to be watching for this one on your store!

Woodburn, OR(Zone 8a)

I'll be standing in line right behind Datdog, I NEED one, I like that it stays small, it would be a perfect patio brug.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

It's bloomed like that twice since then! I love this little guy, he may not be the tallest brug in the garden, but he will put on a show for you!
I've decided I do not like 10ft tall brugs. I want them no taller than 6ft. I use them to hybridize. Has anyone tried reaching the top of a 10ft brug to put pollen on a flower? Not a pretty site trying to stay on a ladder, hold onto a pen and tag and pollinating brush and a little container of pollen all at the same time!

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Susie, gotta have this one when you start selling again. Just a little piece will do.

WOW!!It's beautiful-a winner all around.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Fabulous Susie. I can't believe the color difference. It's beautiful.

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

Cala, Your Eventides are real show stoppers. And I'm with Minigrannie, I'll be watching your store for this one! Nat

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

Susie, you are the CHAMP! I, too, will be watching for this one. Keep sharing your beautiful blooms with us. Hugs, Jo

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

That is unbelievable.

St. Louis, MO(Zone 6b)

WoW! I'm in line also. Please let me know when a cutting goes on the market. This will stop the traffic on Fordham Road (US 1) which passes my gardens out front.

Marshfield, MO(Zone 6a)

I wanna know what your fertilizer regimen is to get those kinds of blooms.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Some Osmocote plus twice a year and 20-10-20 when I think of it plus lots of water in the summer. That's about it.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I'm with you Poppysue,I have some very big green plants!LOL!I have had one good flush on my white,DS trickled a few blooms at me,now I am at a stand still.
