Morning Glory on the front fence

Lindale, TX(Zone 8a)

This Morning Glory comes back each year from one small plant that my dauthter gave me a couple of years ago. It spreads from runners on the ground. I don't know what the correct name is, but it is beautiful.

Absolutely lovely!

I love it! I love seeing a large mass of MG's like that...

It looks like Ipomoea Acuminata. Mine last year rooted to the ground all over the place, but with Iowa's temps, it won't come back each year. I have to hold it over from year to year. Just a real beauty and it blooms like crazy. I got mine from Logee's last year and the chunk I kept over is starting to really grow now. This is one I'll try to never be without. Nice pictures!!

Thanks all. Brugie, how can I start more plants? Could I cut pieces of the runners and root them or just dig up the small rooted areas and pot them.

that sure is pretty :)
mine are growing like mad too but I don't have that much growth yet as the weather isn't cooperating but I'll have plenty of seeds after the growing season if you want some :)

Flow, I'd love some seed. If I don't have room at home, I've got lots of fence at the farm.
Thanks, Bill

just remind me in a month or two :)

If it is the blue dawn, Ipomoea Acuminata or Ipomoea Indica (which it appears to be), they rarely reseed - they have an intolerance for their own pollon. A sterile hybrid. But cuttings take very well. That piece of root or runner, or a small cutting from a tendril will take root pretty easily. Love it! Mine is in a pot, but I'm hoping to put it into the ground in our new place.

I really like the ruffles on yours. I have others growing that haven't bloomed but this one started blooming 2 days ago...........

Butchpoodle is right. Just dig up a little rooted section or if not rooted, put a little soil over a runner and water. It will root quickly. Just don't expect seeds. It probably won't happen.

I really like that one. Is it a more of a blue or a purple?

I think like most plants it will depend on your soil, but here it is "BLUE" and beautiful.

Lindale, TX(Zone 8a)

Brugie is right. It is much more blue than purple.

etexbill, I had some MG that exact same color and form which I obtained from a neighbor. They seem to grow wild around here, and will take over the neighborhood if allowed to do so. It would be nice to know the "official" name, but if I never find out, I'll still always enjoy that restful blue color. Yours look great! -- Jean

Brugie, is this mine?
