Killing sumac

Essex, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

My neighbour had a sumach growing (taking over!) her front garden that was blown down in a gale this winter. It's now sprouting everywhere..........not only my garden that is not that close, which is bad enough but also lifting the pavement (dangerous), coming up in her lawn & borders & coming through the concrete at the side of the road. It seems as if it's everywhere. She's asked me to try & get rid of it. So far I've been using Roundup for 4 months but it still pops up somewhere or other. Any ideas as to how I get rid of it & kill it's extensive root system?

We once owned a 30 acre plot that was overgrown with sumac. Everytime I would cut firewood, within a few days I'd suffer the effects of "sumac rash".

Finally, someone mentioned getting a goat, and staking the animal around the property, which I did.

My momma goat grew fat on sumac.

I am using FertiLome's Brush Killer, Stump Killer on sumac suckers and in one application wilting has begin. From my experience, I recommend you cut down large sumac and apply this product to the stump. If suckers sprout, apply it to them with a sprayer. This product is safe to use in grass.

I have sumac on my fenceline and just love it, but no young ones are allowed to grow-----deer love it here!! Legit

Uh oh! I paid dearly for a cutleaf smooth sumac. I need to go research it and find out if I really want it to stay. It's still trying to settle in so I can yank it out without a problem. After the bindweed experience, I don't want anything that tries to take over.

I just bought land with a sumac planted out in the lawn, I am expecting no problems because I can mow over the suckers. The cut leaf is GORGEOUS!

Thanks Dennis. I haven't read anything yet that has made me dig it out, so I think I'll let it stay. It's in my lawn area too, so as you say I can mow over the suckers. Thanks.
