some reflection

i wonder sometimes why bad things so often happen so close. when you're skimming the waters edge being pushed down makes it a whole other arena.

my sweet beautiful child
the bones on your back are
unlike your smooth sly ways
slick fur marred by shaved scars

your liveliness your death
i never could stop you
cool calm freedom your charm
fed, but never owned you

so now you chose to go
again i must let you
watch you, stroke you, and pray
cats go to heaven too

a rough sketch of what's going on. i got the news today. after all our efforts he had fiB. fiB is fatal. adrian told him we would be leaving in july, the vet said we wouldn't have to worry that long. we've decided to stop giving him the pills, they're not going to do any good and he hates it. i don't have to heart to put him to sleep, he's not in pain as yet. so we wait and we watch and feed him crab legs.

Quynh, I lost my old dog Sid in December - just at Christmas time. He was very ill, but content to wait. He went to sleep in his favorite pile of hay one night and didn't wake up here. I swear there are times that I feel him breathing behind me - he was the one who would lay just behind me as I weeded, ended up covered with weeds and a big grin on his sweet old face. Your presense will give the comfort needed, and you'll find he's there even after he's someplace else.

Quynh, I feel for you. I still have my dog, and she is aging. Thought I might have to put her down last when she ruptured a dick in her spine... but now, she still walks, albeit a bit crooked. When she was a pup, and I would weed, she would take the clumps of weed/dirt and shake the daylights out of them, as if doing her bit to contribute. Even when I lose her, I will always treasure those images! -darius

Q - I'm so very sorry to hear about your pet. As you know I too have a cat who is very ill. He has been with me for 14 years and given me so much joy. All I can do is to love him even more and to make his last days as comforting as I possibly can. I will be thinking of you!

It's so hard to watch a pet you love suffer. I'm sorry to hear your baby's hurting; I know you are, too. :-(

Q,

I'm so very sorry about your cat. I know how hard it is to watch them in their last days. I have a cat that will be 21 if he lives till June. His bloodwork is terrible and he's dying also. He gets liquid vitamins twice a day and is still eating and can still jump up on his window seat where he spends the day looking out the window. Thankfully, he's still using his litter box. He's been with us so long it just won't seem like home without him. We're giving him whatever he wants to eat. I cook him one strip of bacon and an egg each morning and he gets salmon and tuna and chicken, steak, hamburgers..whatever he'll eat. He actually seems to be doing better than he was. Maybe he figures he's got it so good he's not going to leave :-)

Anyway, I read your post and wanted to write to let you know that I do understand. We do love these pets so very much. Their only fault is that they don't live as long as we'd like them to.

Q... the tears are running down my face...you see, my sweet Abby, (who i have had for 14 years)is also very sick. I found out on tuesday she has bone cancer. She only has one week to 6 months to live.Depending how she reacts to the medication. I also feed her crab meat and blend hot dogs up for her in the blender. She is getting warm milk and lots of love. (Rats, the keyboard is getting wet with tears)My heart breaks while I watch her ... I am sorry Q, I really do know what you are going though...((((Big hug))) Lisa

My heart goes out to you, we lost our beloved Dragon( 11 y.o.) over a year ago; my mind's eye still sees her playing "cute puppy", wiggling around on her back until acknowledged and eating the bottom half of the young green beans. May the passing be peaceful and the memories good ones. Marcia

So sorry about the pain that you are suffering...I believe that animals have souls the same as we do...why would they be denied entry to heaven. They are pure and perfect, something we mere humans will never be.

We just had to put down our Scrappy. He's buried in the yard with the others. The vet came here, gave him a shot and let Piper (our Scottie) say goodbye. So tough, am crying too.

My dogs have always been part of the family and I know how you feel. I waited over 2 years before I brought Misty home. She has stolen my heart, but Oscar and Little Girl will always have a special place there too.
