Just wondering if any of you have ever planted a catalpa bignoides 'aurea." I was going to plant a honeylocust, but decided against it after having heard it was both an aphid magnet and dripped under it. It was suggested that I plant one of the golden catalpas instead. I've located one locally, about 10' high now. Any experience with this?
catalpa bignoides 'aurea'
With all the exciting responses to my post, I decided to answer it myself. The "no" on the front of the article is altogether too lonely! I not only found out my information elsewhere, but actually will be planting one in my yard yet this week. They are quite lovely trees, with absolutely smashing leaves! I hope to also plant an Princeton Gold maple elsewhere, because the leaves are quite yellow. In fact in direct sun, they get almost white. Against all the other green normally found in a garden/lawn setting, they really stand out!
Butchards Garden has a few, perhaps they could be an information contact.
