Our Douglas Fir looks like it's about to die. It has little capsules on it that we thought were baby pinecones but we noticed where they are is where the tree is dying. Any ideas what this is? I looked through my "Pest/Disease" book but could not find it. I can obtain a picture and post it here if that would help anyone. Thanks!

Douglas Fir with disease
Sounds like Cooley Spruce Galls caused by adelgids (similar to aphids.) Here's a fact sheet that has images for comparison, and tips to help: http://ohioline.osu.edu/hyg-fact/2000/2551.html
