I'm told to cut my Phlox back by half to make them bushier, this is the second year that I have them. Can I root all the cut offs? What's the best way?

Old Fashioned Phlox
Hmmm, I heard of the old method of cutting off about half of the shoots, leaving about 12 per clump, to get larger and better blooms. I have done that, and it worked well. I have also NOT done that, and had many more flowers almost as large. Sometimes the ones cut back will bloom later, extending the show. As far as rooting the cut offs, I do not know. However, it is easy enough to divide some of the clump away from the edges to transplant elsewhere. Phlox will wilt badly when transplanted, but if kept moist will always recover. I have some of the old fashioned magenta phlox and love it.
