Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!

Tyler, TX(Zone 8a)

Susie, You will not need a PassPort to get into Texas Just tell them you know me I've got friends in Low places

WELCOME TO TEXAS

Crossville, TN

Cala.....we MAY have to plan a raid on a certain lake front home in NY!! I'll bet she has those chickens trained to cause an uproar when some one enters her yard. Jo

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Jo, I bet I wouldn't have to look far to find a partner in crime would I? Wonder if Mystic would come along for "moral support"? We could stop and buy some chicken feed and let Mystic feed the chickens while we raid.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Jo,those chickens were attacked by 2 dogs today, and believe me they let me know!My dogs were locked up,and someones dogs from 2 miles away showed up,they did get a hold of a Sumatra but all the birds made such a racket ,I knew something was wrong. She's minus a few feathers and a little sore but she's oK.

I have the trained chickens in the GH guarding the brugs now......

and the guinea hens ,and geese will back them up......
and then you have to get thru the dogs.....

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

The doggies loved me, will bring steaks just in case. Forgot about those noisy geese and guineas though. Jo, can you remember if those peafowl were mean or not?

Crossville, TN

She had a white Peacock...and she gave me some of the feathers...they are lovely...let's grab somemore!! Maybe we could go in by boat....naw...motor would make too much noises and I'm certainly not going to ROW! I know...Let's just let her have the Brugs...and I...yes me...will grow you some more!! Jo

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

That I've got to see....
Will you do surgery on them too?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Oh My, we are in trouble now! CC, I think she was doing surgery on them before they even sprouted.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

LOL!!!!

Dripping Springs, TX

Cala--Great news on the TX move. I hope you either have trees or a bunch of shade cloth. Are you going to move your brugs in an air conditioned trailer or something else? Plan for bikinis and suncreen(for you not the brugs)LOL

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Desertrose, we go to Texas every year. We will put up a shade house for the small ones, the big ones are going straight into the garden!

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Well geez I just saw this and ya got me feeding chickens but hey thems some mighty fine chickens to be feeding. CC I promise to feed them good you just look this way ( ya might need to give me some pointers been along time sense I feed chickens and never prize winners)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I think we should all caravan to Texas............. we will do the Cala Caravan!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Break it to me gently Calla- what zone will you be in now?
Everyone knows I have a bad case of zone envy! *grin*

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I am trying to decide if it's 9B or 10A, their average minimum temp is 39*F, I've been there once in 10 years when it got that cold, lasted all of 3 days. They have schefflera trees outside that bloom and have berries, they grow weeping ficus Benjamina outside, makes big trees. There are commercial fields of aloe vera. They do have high winds, but I'll take that over freezing!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Okay- Calla, that wasn't gentle LOL! You lucky gal! Your going to have such a ball! When is the move scheduled for? Bet you can hardly wait? One day I'll be in a warm zone. Just need to work on my husband a bit more *grin*!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Datdog, I realized after I hit send that it wasn't a gentle reply, I'll do better next time! We're moving in July(I know it's gonna be hot) I'm anxious to move, but sad too since my hostas, heucheras and pulmonarias won't grow there.

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

I've moved in July before with plants being held over in a uhaul for two days. They came through just fine. A little beat up, but that's to be expected.
In know time you'll forget all about hostas, heucheras, and all the other shade lovers. They'll be replaced by some cool semi-tropical plant.
How many plants do you figure you'll be taking? Or will you be moving the whole GH contents? One thing I've learned from moving SO MUCH (military) There NEVER seems to be enough room in the rented truck to haul all the plants. BE SURE- you get the largest truck/trucks possible. It STINKS to realise you've filled up a large truck and still have another truck load of plants on the ground waiting to go in!
Just think, you won't have to worry about fall coming this year! Know more dragging in plants! YEAH>>>>>>>

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

see, your gunna have to use a tractor trailer......

Crossville, TN

She is TOO helpful Cala...tread with care!!! She has plenty of room to plant all your "stuff". LOL Jo

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I should just mention that I have 3 weeks vacation schedualed for July..........LOL

Cala,
It sounds like an exciting time ahead of you.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Cala, the time is getting closer all the time. I think you are going to need that 18 wheeler . . LOL.

FSH, TX

Cala,
How are you going to get all of those seedlings down here to Texas? Thats an outstanding set of seedlings by the way. Very healthy. Can't wait to have you down here in Tx.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Eric, you will have to come over and help me pick out the good ones!
I'm thinning out the big plants that I feel like I can part with. I've made sure I have at least a 3 gallon plant of every single variety I have(113 of them) and these will fit in between the big pots. I'm hoping to make some temporary shelves to hold the flats of seedlings.
I have pods on some brugs, hoping they are all ripe by July. I've quit(well almost, lol, sometimes I can't help myself) pollinating more flowers.

Montgomery, AL(Zone 8a)

Cala, a 113 varieties. I did not know that there were that many, but then again, I havn't counted. I think Barbara said she had 70 something varieties. You have to be the QUEEN of THE BRUGS !!!!!!!!!!!!

FSH, TX

Cala, I must confess I don't think I could cull any of your seedlings. You've made so many great crosses this past year. I select mine for leaf shape, but then I generally keep a few different leaf shapes from every cross. Its ussually the leaf shape that doesn't appeal to me as much that throws out the better flowers. Go figure! I also select based on which ones look the healthiest. Still, I think that if you want true winners the more of a cross you can grow to flowering the better. I know, I'm not much help. Just the thought of your hybrids not growing out fully sets me to wondering if you might not be throwing out the best ones as well. I'd personally rather have more of the best crosses and get rid of the so so crosses altogether if I had to get rid of any.

san antonio, TX(Zone 8a)

Cala, MaVie just sent me this thread in email, and once I got the moving to Texas part, I had to skip down and post a reply...Wow...what's with everyone coming to Texas?? I think you told me once that you spent your summers in the Brownsville area? Is that where you're moving? Where on the coast? I'll bring some teenagers to help you move your stuff in out here...and unload some of your leftover seedlings into my van...hahaha!!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Meiyu, bring them on down, lol. We spend winters on South Padre(Brownsville area). We love it there! I'm sure there will be plenty of "leftovers" to put in your van.
Eric, I'm going to try to grow as many of the seedlings as I can. I "farmed" some of them out to others who had room to grow them.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

CC I say we go rent us a couple of them customs uniforms, then we camp out at the border, wait till she comes through, and then no matter if the papers are in order,Hijack the whole load, see that way we don't have to load them, just drive the truck and unload. 50/50??

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Cala.........you can use my place as a "rest stop" ;D

"eyes"

Heaven ; ), Denmark(Zone 7b)

Cala, its a veritable jungle in there. I have never seen so many seedlings at once. Do you something so you can water them all in one round or a water matt? It takes a bit time to water seedlings here and there are next to none compared to your GH *lol* Good idea to keep them in the small pots until you all are safe in Texas. I think it will take maybe one truck to move them if you stack horisontally and lay them tight *lol* btw. will it be easier to pack the Brugs in the evening with the leaves raised up or after keeping the pots dry, so the leaves soften a bit?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Tonny, at first I thought you were refering to the "jungle" as the ones trying to hijack my brugs from the moving van, lol. I have them on the gravel floor of the gh. We have an injection system that adds fertilize to the water, I just use a hose with a wand and water breaker. I will water the plants and let the leaves dry before packing them in the truck. I will spray them with a fungicide just in case.
Eyes, I think you might be a bit out of the way, but I'll keep that rest stop in mind(do y'all think my brugs would be safe in the truck parked in her driveway?) I also think I might have to just bypass those customs stops!!! I have a feeling those guys can't be trusted!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

SHHHH CC, I think they are on to us.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Naw,she's a blond.........

She won't know
we can always just make a switch, exchange everyones frosty pinks for all her good stuff....

when she sees all the frosty's blooming at her new house it'll get blamed on the water...LOL

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

Hey, I am glad I will be there before CC and Root.......

FSH, TX

Cala,
Just an idea here, but have you thought of possibly selling some of your seedlings that you aren't going to keep on your website? You could chop some of your larger seedlings into many pieces and root them. Label them, ie all L'amour x Butterfly seedlings could be labeled "LB" with a number following to denote which piece it was cut from. Hence, if you had 10 LB seedlings and 4 pieces from each one you could label them LB 1,1; LB 1,2; LB 1,3; LB 1,4 for the first seedling from LB cross. The second seedling would be cut up and labeled LB 2,1; LB 2,2; LB 2,3; LB 2,4. In this way 3 or 4 people could grow a single seedling and each could either keep it to admire, hybridize with it, post a picture back to you or simply compare with the other 3 that were also growing that same hybrid to see which if it was performing the same way in the same area. Also, if 3 of the same hybrids were sent out to different people, but with no 3 people getting the same assortment they could be graded as to earliest blooming, best color, repeat colors, etc. I know, a bunch of ideas and probably not very feasible, but it may be worth while thinking along those lines before you get rid of any trully worth while crosses altogether. Perhaps buy 2 named hybrids get two seedlings or two cuttings. I just hate to hear of you losing your seedlings when I know you made so many great crosses last year. People sell seeds all the time, but some don't buy seeds for fear of not being able to germinate them. Its something to think about anyway.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Eric, I thought about offering the seedlings on the store, but haven't yet. I have shared my seeds with Pod'ners, they are growing them for me. I have sent seedlings to a few people. I think I will have room for the ones I've started now as long as I don't start anymore!
I like your idea of growing the same seedling(shared by cutting in pieces) in different areas of the country to see how it performs. I did split the seeds from a whole pod with people all over the country just to see how the seedlings from one pod grow out, i.e. how many doubles(if any), how many singles, how many whites, etc from a cross.
I have been experimenting with chemicals that cause lateral breaks on the brugs, maybe that's a way to get more cuttings.
CC, I hate to admit it, but I resemble that blonde comment!(you've been talking to Tracey and Kell haven't you?)

FSH, TX

Cala,
Sounds like a way to get more cuttings, more flowers, more pollen, and of course more seedpods. Definitly something worthwhile to look into if you have only 2 of a plant you wish to work extensively with. I wish you much luck with this endeavor as the sooner you come up with some to die for blooms the sooner I can ogle my screen and wish for a fragrance to waft through the monitor to accompany the visions I'll surely be having looking at your new masterpieces.
