Just bought two eastern red buds. Any special instructions on planting them, how and where? Location central KY.
Red Buds
No special needs that I know of. However, I have one planted in an area that gets very, very wet in the spring (or whenever it rains) and it's doing great. I also have another that's planted in a well drained area in heavy clay and it's doing very well also. I'm in northern KY near Cincinnati. Good luck.
All I can think of is to mulch the roots well for moisture retention and to keep the roots cool. I think it is how I kept several new ones going last year through the drought.
Welcome to DG oconnok! I'm waving from West KY!
Redbuds will do great about anywhere around here.I've got one that is in full, harsh sun all day and is on the hardest packed dirt on the property. The construction trucks parked there when we were building our house.I just kept it watered faithfully for the first two seasons..now it's on it's own and it's 8 years old.
Keep it watered well till it starts to grow. Two summers is best, then it should be fine.
